I Can't See Myself and You Can't See Yourself

It’s a mystery to me of how the focus of a First Person Shooter is based on externals only seen from a 3rd person point of view. The entire focus of this game is essentially on the cosmetics of your Spartan, which cannot be seen by yourself during the game, and frankly I don’t give a hoot what your Spartan looks like when I’m killing him.

Why does the community continue to look at the cosmetics as sufficient reward for lack of gameplay? You spend countless hours playing, only to unlock different colored visors, new chest pieces, ever so slihgtly different helmets, etc.

Perhaps a large portion of the community doesn’t regard it as sufficient, and that’s why user population is so severely low. Do the cosmetics keep you interested?
