I get what you’re saying, but just because we’re a tiny portion of the player base, doesn’t mean we’re not speaking for the frustrations of those that are remaining silent. They might not know about these conversations. It’s our job to speak loudly and plainly for the devs to hear, otherwise nothing would change.
I want to remind folks that this is still a beta.
Not that I don’t 100% agree with everything being said, specifically about the customization and BP in general. But as far as play lists and event types, I’d hold off on doing anything “drastic” until December 8th comes.
343 needs to test the system, the easiest way to do that is to force players into a variety of game types, game types that many of us probably wouldn’t care to play…ever. Fiesta, gives them an opportunity to test almost every weapon system in the game.
I don’t like it, but I’m holding out hope that this is the case, that once 12/8 rolls around we get some sort of a reset. I’ll probably be play the campaign for the most part, so maybe they think this will give them a chance to make some changes. If not, I’ll find another game to play…
Agreed. I’m a firm believer in Hanlons razor, “never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity”. To me this seems much more like a live team just taking cues from various other live service games and looking to maximise player retention without really taking stock of the expectations of the Halo community. If this wasn’t a Halo game I think for the most part the monetisation and amount of content would seem fairly standard.

Summary
I posted this by itself but Imma just leave this here
FIX THIS OR I AINT BUYING. myself as well as so many others are feeling let down and betrayed by the industry right now. Even Rockstar has -Yoink!- the bed. I know the world is falling apart and this is a first world issue. still, we don’t need every game company to turn into professional swindlers, experts in making it look like you can earn rewards the old fashioned way through hard work, skill and determination, until you realize something like it takes 500 hours to earn the right to play as Darth Vader in a Star Wars game, while some spoiled little brat playing on the platinum edition got his mommy to pay for it on his first day.
you guys are lucky the industry is in such bad shape right now because five years ago this would have been unacceptable.
-no co op campaign on launch
-no forge
-customization is hidden behind a pay wall
-same old multiplayer with some new, poorly balanced weapons, that are either too strong or are a pea
shooter, while discarding old classic guns, or replacing them
-no dualing weapons
-no jetpack
-no elites in multiplayer
-no battle royal mode
-no horde mode
-instead gives us a horrible btb gamemode that is basically ctf but with like 6 battery things? (clusterfuck)
-spawning in matches is bad on small maps and will put you in places you get spawnkilled
-melee is way overpowered, feels like you can kill people with it while their shield is up. up close battles are
won by whomever melees first, usually
-shields are way to weak and take way too long to recharge, fix one thing or the other to balance this
-I have already covered this but what you have done to the carbine is disgusting it use to be my most loved
weapon and now its my most hated
this is all stuff apparent to me within a couple hours playing and was super easy to list here. Hopefully 343 is actually concerned with making this a fun and successful game that has a long lifespan but if they don’t listen up and make some changes it will just be another -Yoink!- title released unfished in a blatant attempt to either rip people off or use the first people who play it as a free form of labor, not having to test the game themselves.
thankfully what you have released is playable! imagine that. it is pretty fun too when I have a decent team and I stick to the balance weapons. but don’t get it twisted, we see you. What your doing is obvious and its sadly part of a trend right now. it means you spend less time making the product fun and more time wasted calculating some way to milk more money out of people stupid enough to pay so they can be their favorite color in a game they already own. I would have way more fun playing Halo 3 or Halo Reach with full servers again.
Yeah I really hope real playlists at the very least will be available on full launch. We’ll have to see but right now I’m not very optimistic. I wish they’d give some kind of response to all this backlash.
The problem is, the higher-ups only watch the numbers. The active monthly users and the income from microtransactions. Both are probably quite hight right now, so they think it’s a hit and pat the developers on the back. That’s it. If the graphs go up then it’s all good. The mainstream media will also stand behind this because of priviliged treatment (preview and review opportunities), so you won’t really see critical articles about this at all. In the end, everyone will say “it’s just cosmetic items” and that’s it.
Because Halo Infinite reaches so many new players (because it’s free to play, and it’s on PC on day one), these new players will not be bothered as they don’t necessarily know how Halo used to be in the past. So, again, it’s the core fans that are going to lose their voice, all for “reaching new audiences” that looks much better in statistics.
You are so right with people avoiding the game due to all this bad press. I have friends who will buy every new release of every new game and grind them all for a couple weeks, but they won’t even consider Infinite until the 8th or until they make it more player friendly. Word of mouth is spreading fast and you can actually see a steady decline in player charts.
See I don’t think it is Microsoft. If you have played Forza Horizon which is also a Microsoft property that came out earlier this month you’ll see the almost no existent monetization. Literally no paid for cosmetics or anything. This feels more like design choice than anything.
I agree, but they have to want to listen in the first place to even hear. 343 knew they would get the backlash and the way they went about this literally shows they didn’t want to hear anything.
Well this is what happens when you lie to the fan base. I really don’t have much sympathy for the folks who tried to hamstring the experience like this. They know very well what they’re doing.
F2P was a mistake. I’m starting to not see any other reason why they are torturing us this way.
Something went screwy behind the scenes between December 2020 and now, and the fruits of that misdeed are what we have now. No idea what that “something” was, be it divine intervention from the parent company or a massive oversight on planning, but the Halo Infinite we were promised in December isn’t the one we have right now.
I don’t like the ‘It’s just a beta’ excuse when 343i is asking for real money right now and hosting real events right now. It’s not ‘just a beta’ when wallets are expected to be taken out.
But more to the main point of the post, yeah, 343i has made some absolutely baffling decisions concerning included content, progression, micro transactions and more. The devs in charge of gameplay, art style, and the sandbox did amazing work and people in charge of all of the financial stuff are basically taking a dump all over their hard work.
If 343i wants Infinite to be a long-term platform for them to make money, they need to give people things worth spending money on and stop with the predatory behavior. So many basic things from past Halo games are either missing or locked behind high paywalls. It’s ridiculous and the ‘it’s free to play’ excuse only covers a small portion of the grievances.
If they’re getting it worse than this, then… -Yoink!-. The halo community right now is close to the most childish behavior I’ve seen in the giant -Yoink!- the internet has devolved into.
I guess you’ve not read the community discussions then.
Microsoft is forcing them! I bet you my bottom dollar. And Microsoft is after it
Oh Microsoft is definitely forcing the MTX on the game, but the method is designed and prices likely set by 343.
If I were a new gamer right now, with all the controversy surrounding games as of late, I wouldn’t touch a game that has controversy surrounding it with a 10-foot pole. I would be like, “Look, just give me a polished game that isn’t sleazy in some way, and that’s all I’m going to risk wasting my time on!” And 343/Microsoft need to realize that this is the mentality they’re up against
You maybe one of the few level headed people in the forums. I agree on all 4 points.
The only thing this beta is testing is the community’s patience.
Probably wanting to see how far they can get away with straight up robbery.
