I Can't aim!

It happens everytime. They move left and right and kill me with just 5 shots with a DMR they don’t even pace there shots and still do this yet if i fire without paceing shots then i miss like crazy! so what sensitivity should i try?

Whats your current one right now?

Whichever you feel comfortable with. Use the strafe as well, with the title update…up close pacing doesnt really help. But normal TS is where the pacing counts. Twitch shooting isnt as effective in reach as Halo 2/3. Twitch shots are more for when their one shot and you want that nice crack shot. If you cant aim while strafing…just keep trying and the shots will come natural.

Most likely they are just spamming the first 4 to your body and pacing that headshot. This is what I do depending on my distance from my target. I play at default, I think that’s 3.

Reaction time has alot to do with it also. Some people react faster than others. I do, this is why I play at default and don’t have a problem with it. Aim acceleration plays a big part too.

personally I play 6

Play on something you can consistently hit shots with. There isn’t a “right” sensitivity.

I play in 4. Not too fast for my Sniper but not too slow for my DMR.

I’m now trying 4, its been working great for me so far.

I like five it allows me to turn around quickly and see normally.

A few tips…
Do not charge blindly. Ever I have died like 50 times cause of that.

Throw a grenade first. It will weaken their shields and give you a better chance at winning. Just don’t let their shields recharge

Learn the properties of grenades. frags roll and plasmas grenade stick to surfaces.
Use the properties to your advantages.

I hope these tips are useful.

Cool, now just discipline yourself to not change it. If you’re still getting what you want then it’s something other than your sensitivity that is wrong.

3-4 then, you’ll always be able to easily keep your reticle on your target. Do NOT feel forced to use higher sensitivities.

While I typically only reveal so much information when helping people (After all everybody who isn’t in my clan is a competitor), tonight I’m feeling particularly generous, so I’m going to give you the entirety of my knowledge on this subject.

Firing speed should be varied.

Close Range = Fire quicker
Medium Range = Paced
Long Range = Let reticule reset after each shot

Vanilla Slayer = Paced
Title Update = Quicker shots
MLG (Zero Bloom) = As quick as possible (At any range if you can pull it off)

So first you take the first set of 2 factors in order to figure out which pace you should be firing. I recommend going into custom games with a buddy to get the right feel for it.

Additionally if you played Halo 3, you would’ve had to lead your shots to account for the bullet’s flight time. In Halo Reach the detection is measured via hit scan. Meaning if I’m aiming at your head the moment I shoot the game counts that and you cannot strafe out of it. This is why people seemingly get shot around corners. Also it should be obvious but not every weapon uses hit scan (Rockets example). So if you were used to leading your shots in Halo 3, that is what is killing you in Reach. You no longer lead your shots, you aim dead on.

—Crouching—

If you’re crouching your reticule will reset quicker, allowing you to fire at a quicker pace. Be warned though that this kills your evasion. Typically worth it in vanilla slayer, but not in TU or MLG unless at mid-long range

—Always aim for the head—

I hear this one a lot, but it is BS. This is BS because of a combination of 4 factors:

#1 You do NOT need 5 headshots for a DMR kill. 4 body shots then 1 headshot finisher deals the same kill

#2 Bloom causes a randomness

#3 Your opponent will most likely be strafing

#4 The torso is a large target, the head is a small target

If you aim consistently at your opponent’s head, chances are you will wind up missing a shot do to factors 2-4. Instead of only aiming for the head, fire the first 4 shots at the torso (Large target), pacing your shots appropriately to match settings and the distance to your opponent. Once you see your opponent’s shield break, then take a slight moment for the reticule to reduce in size then finish them off with a headshot.

—Sensitivity—

Now this isn’t a matter of simply which is most comfortable to you. There are factors to take into account.

A slower sensitivity is great for long range targets, or for sniping. However a low sensitivity can get you destroyed in close quarters combat.

A higher sensitivity is great for CQC, but can make distance shots harder to pull off.

So taking these two in mind, you don’t want a sensitivity which is great for one, but sucks for the other. You want a sensitivity which isn’t perfect, but usable at ALL ranges. That is why a lot of players use 3-4. I’m on 4. No it won’t be perfect in every scenario, but it won’t screw me over in any scenario either. Balance and adaptability are key. Believe me when I tell you that I can see if my opponent’s sensitivity is too high/low when they’re trying to out DMR me, and I DO exploit this.

—Evasive maneuvers—

There are a few types of evasive maneuvers you can do. Think of these are your Shield, while your DMR is your Sword.

#1 Gandhi Hop. This is the technique of jumping while repeatedly mashing the crouch button. This makes your head bounce up and down and is intended to decrease the chances of your opponent getting that last finishing headshot on you.

#2 Strafing. Not as useful in Reach but can help at times. The size of your strafe should vary by distance to your opponent. A lot of people attempt to use a “One strafe fits all ranges” approach, but it simply isn’t as effective as varying your strafe based on range and your opponent’s weapon (Since they won’t ALWAYS have DMR)

#3 Firing from cover. While it is still completely possible to kill you, the cover reduces your silhouette creating the possibility of absorbing some of your opponent’s shots. Remember that if you are half way in cover (From the side), grenades are thrown at the center of the screen FROM YOUR LEFT! Meaning if your left side is in cover and you try to throw a grenade you might throw it at your cover.

—External Factors—

#1 Hand-Eye coordination. A lot of MLG players play a bit of sports (Particularly Basketball) in order to increase their hand-eye coordination. So go play some basketball, it’ll also help you avoid the stereotype of the over-weight shut in gamer.

#2 Dexterity. Do a Google search on exercises in which to increase your control over your fingers.

#3 Turn off vibration. Unnecessary vibration can move your fingers in ways you don’t want them to. Turn it off for complete control over your fingers.

#4 Caffeine. Caffeine amongst other drugs can increase the user’s focus. Better focus means better control over your hands and better results.

#5 Warm your hands. You’ll need to get the blood flowing in your fingers to maximize control. fingerless gloves on cold days help, as well as the Ogre Twitch, made famous by the Ogre Twins. Basically it is just moving your right thumb in a small rapid fire circle when there is nothing else going on to keep the blood flow going.

Now that I’ve given a lot of advanced tips, I encourage people to apply for my clan Halo Masters Society. There is a lot more top-tier information where that came from. If you feel like you’ve learned from my post, and want to learn more feel free to apply. A high skill level is not the only thing I look for, and I do take on average players to teach.
College classes on Monday and Wednesday so don’t expect to hear from me until Thursday.
Send a message to BWO Arbiter if interested.

I usually play on 4. It’s quick enough to where I can turn around to avoid getting assassinated, but slow enough to where I can easily shoot on target. Keep in mind, though, that there is no “right” sensitivity, as finger control varies from person to person!

Another tip I can provide: turn vibration off! The extra movement is just enough to make my aim a little jittery!

I change tween 3-4 but if im on a turret 5.
