Is it because he can’t find any players or because he’s got a ban? If it’s the former, try searching on Expanded.

Afraid that tuhin94 is right. I tried to matchmake on social and eventually failed with ‘Unable to join’ on focused, then gave up waiting on balanced.
I can get a game on warxone almost immediately on expanded …

I think you need to give us more information if you actually want this resolved.

  • Are they searching on Focused, Balanced, or Expanded? - Are they able to even get to the point at which they could swap between those options? - Do they have an xbox live gold account? - Are they receiving any error messages when they try to play? - What’s their NAT type? - What is their gamertag?

Was he able to play matches previously before this? Him getting banned is a possibility.

Can you explain/describe what happens when you try to play matchmaking please? Be as specific as possible.

Custom Games and Campaign never give out XP, and XP is what you need to level up. If you want to level up, Arena and Warzone will help you. But since it sounds like you can’t play multiplayer, you better do the following:

  • A hard reset of your Xbox (hold down power button until the fan goes quiet) - Restarting your internet router by unplugging it for 10 seconds then turning it back on - Clearing your alternate MAC address (Settings > Network > Advanced > Alternate MAC address, etc)
