Crimson map pack, anyways. I downloaded them to my flash drive whenever they came out–but nowadays, the flash drive isn’t even in the xbox. Like, at all. And I still play the DLC maps just fine.
any explanation?

Either it’s on your hard drive or it’s the Ghost of Lockout.
I guarantee you that I did not download it to my hard drive. Or transfer it. I didn’t have the space after putting the halo 4 disc 2 on there.
Are you so sure? You should check anyway
oh god.
The only explanation would be because it is disc locked content, and somehow don’t need the “DLC” downloaded to play once downloaded once.
With the unlocking code unneccesarily being 245mb* in size just to cover up.
*Can’t remember the actual size.
I still highly doubt this though.

It was a full download, not authorization for disk locked content
the only large files i have are spops season 1.0 and war games
no dlc whatsoever on my hd and i can play the maps just fine
aaand i’m looking at my flash drive right now, crimson map pack 529MB and spops season 1.5 2.3GB
it is most definitely not on my hard drive and yet i play those maps regardless.

That is quite odd, it’s not on the cloud is it? I doubt it, it’s probably too big
didn’t expect anything else but I can’t access those maps in custom games
Maps are cached, so maybe you just got lucky and they were cached before you removed the drive. They have to be somewhere, it can’t just read them from some magical plane of existence, go to storage, select the one that views everything, and then look for it there. And clear your system cache to check if it’s that, it has to be either stored somewhere or it’s in the memory, you can’t run hundreds of megabytes from pure hopes and wishes.
in unrelated news i never want to play any of those maps ever again anyways
except for wreckage, maybe. shatter and especially harvest are huge disappointments
