Yes, I am very aware of the difficulty of this achievement. Yes, I have watched numerous videos and read numerous theories as to what the “perfect” conditions must be. That said, I have done this for hours and died too many times to count; and completed the assassination so many times that I can’t imagine that I haven’t hit this in a manner that would unlock this achievement… Is this still attainable? Is there a known glitch that prevents this from being unlocked? Given the numerous problems this has presented to even the most skilled Halo players, why has there never been a title update to adjust the “perfect conditions” that are required? Has an update ever been considered or is this just left to players to become so infuriated with that they’d prefer to never touch Reach again? Is there any assistance that can be offered beyond a link to a game video that matches my own gameplay?

also, seeking players with the anniversary map pack still installed to play infection…Still after Emergency Room, and really need the drive space freed up so I can reinstall Spartan Ops 1.5 for Halo 4.
The Achievement is fine dude. Just to clarify you have been attempting this at the very start of the ‘Pillar of Autumn’ mission?
If so my only advice to you is to go to the edge of the hill straight away, see where the Elite is, wait until he moves forwards and to the right slightly, back up and make the run. Note yes you must sprint in order to get close enough, jump and get as close to the back of the Elite as possible -
(You can very slightly alter your position in mid air by putting the left analog stick in the desired direction)
just before you hit the ground do a melee attack and hope for the best, if you fail, rinse and repeat.
My assumption is that you are hitting the ground first right before you melee, or you have it on easy difficulty, put it on normal.
I’ve even tried on Legendary! I have hit the ground, been damaged to the point that my health warning goes crazy as the animation begins for the assassination. I have repeatedly tried the tips you gave, as they aren’t really anything different than the thousands of other items I have read, however I do appreciate the response and I guess I’ll keep trying…at least my 2 year old thinks its funny when I hit the ground and die.

I agree with this guy, if you took damage that would suggest you are hitting the floor first and I think for the achievement you have to land via assassination of the Elite. Don’t worry you will get it eventually, it didn’t seem that hard for me, only took a few tries of trial and error.
it is tough and hard to predict. i took me multiple tries and angered me a lot but i eventually got it and for some weird reason i can do it in 2 or less tries now. you will get it. just keep trying. i took a screenshot of mine too
There are 2 very important things that you need to do to get this achievement.
One you need to make sure that you are trying to assassinate the elite when he moves near the truck on the right of the road. It is is that position only that you would die from the fall if you tried to land the jump there and to get this achievement you have to die from the jump. If you miss the jump and assassination and dont die then you are not hitting the right spot. If you do it when the elite is closer and over near the trucks on the left of the road or in the middle of the road it wont work as the jump you make wont kill you. You may have to restart the mission a few times to get the elite to be in the right place when you first go near the edge of the cliff.
With that out of the way the second important thing to do is stop running once you jump off the cliff. So many people forget to do that and land it and fail. I cannot stress that if you sprint and jump you must stop the sprinting action on the descent before you melee.
I hope these tips help and if when follow them i can get this nearly everytime on the first attempt.
This takes about 30 minutes of dying or failed attempts to get. Put it on Pillar Of Autumn, on Legendary, with almost all skulls on. Actually just put all skulls on except Iron. When you jump you need to use sprint, BUT you need the sprint energy bar to have at least half juice left when you turn it off. That’s right - after you jump and the bar is at half energy turn it off, then pull back slightly as if you want to go backwards. The best thing to do is keep the crosshairs off the elite until the last second. This is always the best way I’ve found. I got it on my own and for my brother. It takes patience and timing.
Friend, it is relatively easy, once you learn to do, haha, turns party! It’s like they said, you have to “land via assassination” without taking damage!
Then, once we have learned, hahah, the Elite becomes an airfield at other times when you play “The Pillar of Autumn”
Hey bro!! (Seriously… This is my brother… Like… By blood, lol). Did you get the achievement yet? I’m assuming “no” otherwise you would have called me or texted me immediately after in your moment of triumph. Lol.
Well, I tried for it for 2 hours with well over 200 deaths to no avail. Tried again for another 2 hours the next day, then gave up. A few months later I tried again, for another 2 hours or so, then at last… I met with success. It’s by far, the hardest halo achievement EVER!!
When I got it though, I actually DID get it while the elite was further to the left side, and it looked to me like I landed just behind the elite. It started the animation where I knocked the elite forward onto his face and pounced on the back of his head (not sure if the animation makes a difference), and my shields were down… But everything happened so fast that I’m unsure if my shields dropped because of the fall/landing or if it was due to taking fire from the other enemies in the area after starting the assassination animation. I was on legendary, with no skulls on…
If you have not already achieved this, I’ll tell you something weird. My Spartan is a girl and like you, I tried forever to get this achievement. My 6 year old nephew suggested that I change the -Yoink!- of my Spartan to male. I did this and got the achievement on the first try. Not sure if it will work for you or if it had anything to do with my getting the achievement but… Good luck.
Here’s how it happened for me:
Like you, it seemed like I tried thousands of times - then for some reason, I realized I wasn’t holding down the button when I reached the Elite.
The very next try, squared him up, and held it -done.
I’ve done it again and again…
Hope this helps - good luck!
I literally just got this achievement about a month ago. It’s all about timing. And it’s a -Yoink- to pull off no matter what. Either you get it or you don’t.
