Not because I think they will be overpowered, and not because I think they will give you an enormous edge over your opponents.
I believe they will be lame because I think they will be unnoticeable. I think these perks will work much like the useless Battlefield 3 perks, where one of them enhances Suppression and the other decreaces Suppression, negating one another effects.
If I were to be honest, I’d really like to see many God-like perks that make you feel like a freaking Spartan IV, and not just some little punny speed boost, or maybe an inch-higher jump.
If 343 is gonna copy CoD, I think they should go all the way and put some powerful and game-changing perks out there, instead of trying to make what BF3 did with its nearly-unnoticeable perks that hardly affect gameplay at all.

You want new additions to be uselsess and unnoticeable?
Why don’t you ask for great and epic mechanics to be implemented first, AND THEN ask for a Pure-Barebones playlist with no additions?
There are many people like you who despise change, and I don’t like them. This is the beggining of a new trilogy, a brand new Halo. I really wish 343 goes nuts with the new add ons so we can enjoy a whole fresh and new Halo experience unlike we have for the past 4 years with Halo 3-Reach being so similar.
If 343 creates epic new mechanics and maps, we may be asking for them to be re-used and remade in the next Halos. Otherwise, we will be stuck in the 2007 era of Halo 3 forever.
I really hope they’re not noticeable. That’s the only way they’re gonna be able to use them without ruining how Halo should be, which is fair and balanced.

Perks aren’t enjoyable
Halo 3 and reach are no where near similar.

Please re-read what you just wrote here. A whole fresh and new Halo experience is indeed enjoyable, at least for me.
And Halo 3-Reach didn’t suffer that much change regarding add-ons to gameplay, trying to implement 7 “armor abilities” into the game instead of perks, and “loadouts” instead of Create a Class 2.0 like Black Ops.
It was similar to CoD’s idea, but not as similar so fans wouldn’t complain on rip-offs.
You don’t understand the competitive players and their stand point on this issue. We understand that you’re looking forward to change. You want new gameplay. Well, the competitive players (as a majority) do not want the game to have all these jetpacks, armor locks, reduced jump height, single burst bloom weapons. It greatly affects gameplay and makes things different when they didn’t need to be changed.
If you want new things implemented, keep it to campaign or specific game types. Halo has always been the competitive leader in console FPS’s because of the arena style, fair and balanced way it is implemented. We do not with for that to change the way it did in Reach.

wow, you just said halo 3 and reach were too similar for your taste.
i hope for all of our sakes that your not the kind of person 343 is tending to…
i dont even know what to say… im so mad, but its not your fault for wanting such a stupid thing.

Wait, so you’re saying we should stick to the 2007 formula of Halo 3 to cater to the whinning minority of competitve players who left Reach because they despised change?
You should try to re-define your definition of “competitive” here, as anyone who plays Team Slayer with the Default Reach settings and the 5 usual loadouts can be and actually are, in fact, competitive players. “Competitive” does not mean no AA’s, DMR-only symmetrical spawns. “Competitive” means that you were good enough at the game to adapt and improve your skill in it.
I’d like brand new innovation across all boards. Your definition of “competitive” players can always have their MLG or customs or whatever, but the experience should be fun for everyone who likes epic Jetpack-ing through the air throwing grenades and mowing down foes with innovative weapons.
You see, I don’t mind the jetpacks and such. They are a great addition to the game that adds an exciting new element to the game.
The only thing I wish they would change would be the re installment of the BR, the lack of bloom, an increase in run and jump speed to be parallel with the previous Halo games, and more or less a similar ranking system to Halo 3 WITH the credit system for rewards.
The best of both worlds.
And guess what, 343 plans on doing all of that as of now.
Tl;dr: I’m happy, that post was explaining other’s feelings without even seeing more information on the game.
(thought I had a quote here- sorry, new to the site…)
I still am unclear on what determines a competitive gamer. I love winning, I love my k/d spread, and I love going for the objective in objective games. However, I do not have a clan, and often play alone. I like innovation and look forward to Halo’s evolution. I like Infection. I like Grifball. Do these things make me a competitive or casual player?
I just don’t like the concept of perks. I’d rather have these new armor effects/perks similar to Battlefields. In MW3, perks like Assassin, Blind Eye, Stalker, Marksman, and Quickdraw have much more of an effect on the game than your gun does. It eliminates all potential gun skill and strategy and replaces it with the luck of choosing the right perk before the battle, and drawing your gun faster, seeing people more easily, and being undetectable by any killstreaks and crosshairs. If perks like this are introduced, you can see goodbye to skill, and hello to lucky saves, and unfair advantages. At least the AA’s in Reach are fairly balanced, except for Armor Lock of course (and possibly Camo). Jet Pack, Sprint, and Evade are all fairly balanced, and at least take strategy to properly utilize. They change nothing but movement. Anything more than that, and you have a crappy game.
