Just played WZFF, and this gun just popped out from a grunt. I saw one other person post about this so it may not be as rare as i thought, but it was amazing to experience it with no prior knowledge. It looks like a new plasma launcher similar to one from Reach. Fires a single shot or multiburst.
Here is a link to the video
As well as my Spartan holding it
Certainly interesting. Seems a bit odd to add something like this when we have the Plasma Caster.
What does this keep popping up tonight? We’ve known about it since the day of the Warzone Firefight update.
It’s Reach’s Plasma Launcher. Clearly they’re working on it because it’s been up-modelled (higher polycount, better lightmapping) since we last saw it in a very unfinished state in Halo 4’s cut content. It doesn’t have sounds or a viewmodel yet, just a worldmodel, and the grenade textures are placeholder.
It locks on and follows targets, by the way, more like the Hydra than the Plasma Caster. Charge it up to fire up to 4 grenades. Would be easier to know how many you’re shooting if the reticule worked but since it wasn’t meant to be in the game yet…

Considering how frequently i visit the forums I’m surprised i missed this. Haven’t seen or heard anything about it unless i forgot.
Oh well I’ll take the embarrassment, it was pretty awesome finding something i had no idea about, hard to come by these days.
I made a post on this its likely that other person was me. But yeah its strange they are possibly working on a plasma launcher for H5 but maybe they just have coded it for ai and not us yet. They did say that there will be future updates just not monthly.

No worries. I went through the trouble if trying to find it myself in game to take a few pictures and see how it functioned compared to its Reach iteration. It was pretty cool to find and fun while it lasted. From what I gather, it’s only on Stormbreak, during on round where you have to kill Ghost bosses, and a group of Grunts will drop from a Phantom carrying these. They don’t shoot them because the AI isn’t programmed to understand how to use it.
My guess? Either leftover code from Halo 4, which was leftover from Reach, though doubtful because the Plasma Launcher was truly low-poly in Halo 4. Or, something they planned to add since production but never did, and they accidentally made it so those few Grunts in particular spawn with it instead of something similar like the Fuel Rod. Or, something they’re working on currently and some test code was left in the Warzone FF update.
Here it was in Halo 4, and here in Halo Reach. For comparison.
Oh wow! That would be great if it comes back in Halo 5. But we already have all the dlc’s, right? Or is there still coming new ones every month?

Neat lol
On a side note, cut-content from Halo 4 reminds me of those cut armor abilities like the Teleport and the Battlefront style gamemode

Its the last big named update. Obviously Forge still has a lot to come, so I wouldnt be surprised if there’s other updates coming too.
