343 lets get this finished once and for all, as a Christmas present would be nice. The Linux and Steam Deck community is eagerly waiting a patch for MCC to support Steam Deck to enable the multiplayer. It’s a perfect system, we know your developers have them. You know it’s a perfect fit. Lets do this!
Last update maybe a month ago was that it wasnt their fault, its really hard because they have to work with Valve and Epic.
Somehow Infinite works flawlessly though?
I agree, PLEASE get this fixed. I hate having to install Windows on my deck JUST for MCC.
Halo MCC is literally the only game I play regularly that isn’t working on the deck. I’ve played offline without EAC and it runs beautifully, but I’d love to be able to play multiplayer and do some achievement hunting on the go. I want to finish my legendary playthrough on the deck, but I don’t want to do that if I can’t get the achievements to prove it lol.
Please 343i, this would be a fantastic Christmas present.
infinite does not use easy anticheat, it uses an in-house solution called arbiter. eac has been a huge thorn in the sides of getting games to work on steam deck, particularly epic’s refusal to support developers with older versions of eac in their games.
Yes, I should have updated my previous post. No updates about EAC in the November update it seems, so going into next year still unsure.
-Console Support
-In Menu Mod Support
-Microsoft Windows Store Mod Support
-Modded map support for Custom Games Browser
If we can get stuff like this, I feel like MCC will become immortal. I actually believe that. Games like Skyrim, L4D2, TF2, CS:GO, they’re all like a decade old or so and people still play them.
Oh, and maybe something that allows us to use the visuals for anniversary remastered models for the Halo CE and H2A campaigns. I understand that those particular assets are some kind of pak files and not something that you would normally mod. But I just enjoy for example the H2A Campaign Model for the Plasma Rifle more than the H2A Multiplayer model.
As a followup to my last comment, I feel like I should mention that there should be a way for us to use at least some mods without having to disable the Easy Anti-Cheat.
As a refresher, there’s a mod called “Halo 4 Reflow” by d3ad connection, it pretty much overhaul Halo 4’s gameplay and graphics. It’s one of my favorite Halo mods that I’ve played. There’s a graphical changes only version of the mods that’s downloadable for Campaign, and since it only affects graphics like the lighting, it shouldn’t have any impact on the online multiplayer balance of the sandbox.
This combined with the Halo 4 “Rescored” mod by GruntyGunner I feel helps to improve the overall Audio/Visual experience of Halo 4. And again, the “Rescored” mod would affect things like damage, just the audio. And with the Halo 4 mod tools now released, you can just about bet that these mods will improve by a lot.
Point is, like with the idea of modded map support for CGB, I feel like there should at least be a limited amount of mod support with EAC enabled. As long as it doesn’t affect the online multiplayer balance or do anything crazy in campaign like Unlimited Ammo or Invincibility. In those cases, yes it makes sense to disable EAC. But for primarily artistic visual/sound based mods, I feel like allowing EAC enabled should be considered.
No update in today’s December update either… I guess no Christmas present for us.
I think this would be great to see.
They’ve already done part of the work. Would be great to finish it!
Well guys, I’ve been playing halo mcc on my Steam Deck for a week now. Just finished reach and it was flawless. Halo 1 and 2 run, but 1 definitely has performance issues with the remaster, legacy mode is fine. For some odd reason, it wants to max out the power level, almost hits 19w even with only 40% usage of either gpu or cpu. Again, Reach ran absolutely fine, maybe used 12 to 14w at most but no lock up. 2 works better, no hard lock like 1 remaster but not as smooth, like it’s locked to 30fps or something and some input lag, but… Legacy graphics and it runs flawlessly. Soo… I thought maybe an issue with the remaster? Loaded halo 3 and just like Reach… No issues. Haven’t tried odst or 4 yet but I have a feeling they’ll be fine. Just something with the remastered mode.
When I launch it in Steam, I select anti cheat disabled and go to it. No fooling around with deleting files. Just select that option and go. Of course no multi-player this way but I’m OK with that. And yes this is with steam OS not windows. Love the quick resume… If it wasn’t for that I wouldnt get any gaming in.
Honestly hope it’s fixed before Christmas, I travel back home to my family for the holidays, it’s a remote and boring town so being able to get in some reach matches over the holidays would be really nice
It looks like Valve is still working on it.
Valve is still “actively working on support” to get Halo: The Master Chief Collection working fully on the Steam Deck

I’m just going to make a prediction and say that this will come with the next MCC update (that is to say if there’s going to be another MCC update, which I hope there is). It seems like the MCC team has been releasing major updates every three months based on the last two updates. so maybe by the end of February something like this will get fixed, along with a bunch of other stuff on 343’s to-do list.
As someone who recently got a steam deck I can say I support this thread fully. MCC works great with single player modes, having EAC be the only problem with running the game on Steam Deck honestly isn’t that bad. I love this game on steam deck but man full MP support would make my entire year.
I wouldn’t hold my breath, 343 can’t/won’t even do splitscreen on PC despite saying it was TOTALLY something they were working on.
To be fair I never saw PC Split-Screen as something that could be pulled off. at least not by 343.
Yeah 343i kept listing it in their backlog for like over a year before quietly dropping it. Between this and the disaster that is halo infinite, it has become evident that all 343 cares about is increasing their bottom line rather than giving the players features they love that have been staples since the beginning of the franchise. Funny enough, them chasing “profitable” features rather than requested features has cost them their player base.
So I think they’re getting super close. I was able to recently launch MCC with EAC enabled. This time the game actually loads, then presents a pop-up saying “Easy Anti-Cheat Hash Catalogue not found”. The game then acts as though EAC is disabled and will not let me search for online matches and such.
I’m currently on the Steam Deck preview update channel, with the game set to default proton settings, which is 7.0-5
I do like the Idea to play MCC on deck it is really great. Sadly best way is right now getting Edge and stream it. But If you tried it once too, does the stream also appear very glitchy at times?
I disagree. Best way right now is to put Windows 11 on an SD Card and run Steam/MCC that way.
If you have a Windows machine capable of running MCC, you can use Moonlight to stream it, which you can install via the software center. In my experience, Moonlight is miles beyond the streaming on steam in terms of stability, latency, and image quality.
