I suck horribly with the DMR but can slaughter people with the needle rifle. Any tips?
Play some Octagon with some buddies.
Always crouch when firing the DMR.

My buddy and I have been playing slayer and I just get slaughtered when it’s DMR’s. I can’t do anything when everyone else has one.
What’s everyone’s deal with DMR’s can no one just play regular slayer?
Also it always seems that there are 2 DMR slayers and only one non DMR slayer. I don’t get it. It’s the slayer playlist not DMR slayer. It’s so annoying to only play DMR slayer all the time, it’s all anyone ever votes for.

Blame that on the way 343 set up the voting. Normal slayer will always only show up in one spot. The other is always DMR Slayer and the third has everything else EXCEPT normal slayer.
Also, the settings you use the DMR under can have a pretty big impact. Old Reach settings requires a lot better timing to not play sloppy and miss the crucial shots. TU stuff is much more lenient with that in mind, but you can still miss if not careful.
Either way, lay off the trigger…it’s a bigger accuracy penalty compared to the Needle rifle when you need that almighty headshot.
play some zb-anything/mlg. your dmr will improve drastically.
Your sensitivity may just be too high also, try lowering it to see if it helps.

Its sad that its true …
My BR was good my DMR needs work sometimes …
The more you use it the better …

I used to play on CE, 2 and maybe 3 with it at 10. Now I play with it at 6 or 7. I like it high, I think most of my issues are with firing too fast and not crouching. My reticle is almost always red yet I don’t get hits.
Also why do you have to zoom to be able to shoot at longer ranges? I notice that I can be aiming directly at someone but not get hits at all but when I zoom I start to get hits.
dont worry about the dmr. work on your nades, sprint escapes, and melees. good players wont be standing around for 3-4 seconds letting you lolreachheadshot weapon them to death.
you only get a second and a shot or two to kill a decent player before he’s safely behind an object and you get butchered by a horde of his teammates. the only way you can kill someone in such a short period of time is if you first hit him with anythingbutaheadshot weapon to eff his day up.
I play on 5 sens and I’m totally down with doing some Octagon with you. I won’t be online for about another week though.
Well all I can suggest is to practice with it that’s what I did and watch the replay videos in the other people’s view to see how they do it.
Also pace and place your shots, I use to rush and I got nowhere, watching retacle is another good tip.
But practice makes perfect.
I am no god with the DMR by all means.

Your reticule/cursor covers more of the target’s body when zoomed in, so you land more hits.
DMR slayer sucks on those small-ish maps, only should be in BTB.
Don’t spam the trigger and move side to side in an unorderly fashion to not get hit.
Keep using needle rifle? It’s better and takes more skill anyways.
Aim for center mass when firing far away. Aim for their head only when you know you can actually hit it. Keep your DMR reticule head height at all times when you don’t see another enemy (prepares you).
Strafe. I know some people say that sitting there and crouching works since strafing is difficult since Reach Spartans are so slow, but trust me, it throws them off. Don’t think too much about your strafing though. Focus more on landing shots.
If you get the jump on another player, and they don’t see you, crouch and shoot until they turn around, then you can strafe. This keeps you off radar if you’re close, and you have better accuracy.
When shooting (with regular bloom), shoot in 3 quick burst, then pause so your reticule can shrink. So it should be 3 spams, half a second wait, 3 spams. Most often you will kill them in the middle of the second spam, so be careful not to waste a shot.
Sometimes you will be shooting at another player, seemingly landing most of your shots, and they will still kill you with ease. This is because of lag, and there’s is nothing much you can do. When you find this happening to you (and there isn’t a host switch in the middle of the match), forget the DMR, it becomes unreliable. Grab an automatic weapon (like the needler). You’ll have a better time at least not bringing your team down.
Keep your controller vibration OFF. If you have trouble keeping your reticule on the enemy player, try holding your breath. Holding your breath keeps you from chatting, and fidgeting. While it’s not a sure fire way to always win, it helps me focus when I need it.
When playing with the DMR. Have your mentality to NOT die. You may have less kills, but you’ll also have less deaths, which will keep your “points/rating” the same as those who got a lot of kills but died a lot. This doesn’t mean don’t try to kill other players and just run away. It means, forget jumping off a strategic high-ground just to chase an enemy; forget chasing enemy players around corners if you can’t determine where they are.
Keep your distance, throw a grenade and try to take their shields down, then shoot them directly after you throw the nade.
When looking for enemy players, try moving from cover to cover, so if you get taken by surprise, you have a better chance of survival (Example, don’t walk in the middle of hemorrhage, hug the wall and look for enemies)
Hope this helps, this is usually my tactics for Halo.
> What’s everyone’s deal with DMR’s can no one just play regular slayer?
I enjoy having a way to defend myself off spawn.
Crouching can help when using it and always like the BR in halo 3, aim for the head as soon as the the shields are gone your one shot to victory.
also when trying to go for ranged kills, slow down and pace your shots, your more likely to kill the guy because he won’t know where it is coming from or he will be to caught up in another battle - use this tactic in gametypes such as big team or invasion on the big maps, it helps you improve.
Not sure what to say. Play more Elite Slayer? I’m okay with the DMR, but I’m also a lot better with the Needle Rifle. Just use the Needle Rifle as much as possible and you should be fine, but you should definitely try to get better with the DMR.
> I suck horribly with the DMR but can slaughter people with the needle rifle. Any tips?
Wanna play some octagon? It will really help with your DMRing and strafe, and crouch, and jump.
If you want to get better and die less, strafe. Always strafe. In long and short bursts, just do your best to not let them kill you.
And always remember grenades are your friends.
-
Use octagon for a warm up before entering MM.
-
Always crouch when firing. More accurate.
-
Sensitivity. If you like long-mid range, use 3 or 2. For close-mid range, use higher sensitivity, like 5 or up.
Maybe you are more of the support player? And not just run-gun guy. If you’re just aren’t a up close type of player, stay to the borders of maps. And stay on your side of the maps until you team moves over their spawn (if you sit there all game, they WILL come after you.)
