What I mean to say is, why do you think 343 decided to create a whole new weapon rather than either tweak the Plasma Rifle to function as the Storm Rifle does now, or use the Plasma Repeater in order to make the weapon sandbox a bit more varied in functionality?
I personally would’ve liked to see an overhaul of the Plasma Repeater than the Storm Rifle. to help differentiate it from the other weapons in the sandbox in order to make a more interesting selection of weapons. I really liked the manual cooldown/gun becomes more accurate and slow as it heats up mechanic.
It’s a pathetic attempt at creating a new Covenant weapon. They could have easily beefed the classic and beloved Plasma Rifle, but noooo, they chose a completely uninspired, horrible looking weapon to replace it.
Don’t get me wrong, it looks pretty cool, but I agree there was really no reason at all to kill the Plasma Rifle, which has basically become a Halo classic even with its underuse in Reach.
It seems a little too human, and the awesome plasma-like sound is now more choppy. It sounds fine, but kind of deters from typical Covenant technology.

That’s a pretty cool way of thinking about it, I think that’s the way I’ll look at it from now on too.
It would have been pretty cool if the Plasma rifle was still in the game though, but it could be slightly beefed up and would have it’s “Freezing” effect to make it into a power weapon. Could be the covenant counterpart to the SAW?

haha, I remember when I had 117 posts and I didn’t comment for like two weeks. Same thing at 343 posts.
I would have loved to have the Plasma Rifle back and to it’s original power in Halo 1 and 2 than the Storm Rifle. It was such an iconic Elite weapon. To me it looks similar to the Plasma Repeater.

I remember the jump from Halo 2 to Halo 3 me and my friend almost cried when we saw the new shiny HD version of our beloved plasma rifle. The storm rifle looks fine, I would prefer it to be a little glossier, but in first person view while wielding it doesn’t resemble the feeling of the -Yoink!- plasma rifle. I agree that it needed a game play change but not the aesthetic shape and design.

But that means we would have to have brutes and no-one wants that. The onlygood thing in reach about them was putting only them on firefight and super combining them with an endless needler. In fct I’m going to do that now!

Well we have the Gravity Hammers but no Brutes.But I wasnt serious about the BPR thing lol.

I love Brutes; Halo 2 Brutes! The only real Brutes. The best Brutes! The Brute Plasma Rifle and Brute Shot were lovely.
I’m gonna miss the plasma rifle along with all the other abandoned toys,
Storm rifle looks good enough, faster projectiles make it far more reliable/less dodgy then previous games plasma guns

I’ll miss the look of it for sure, but it was never a weapon I picked up (except occasionally in campaign) so for me I’m not heartbroken over its removal.
