Okay guys. I really want to play Halo 5 competitively and have fun with my friends but they don’t even want to play with me because of how bad i am at it. I don’t recall being THIS bad at other Halo games. Does anyone have any tips for me to get more kills?
I sent you a message about this. I can try to help you get better with some basic training.
I don’t know about more advanced tips or whatever, but I can say this: Only use sprint when you are absolutely certain there are no enemies around, or you’re in a bind. It’s all about situational awareness. Also, using slide is an excellent way to move from cover to cover and make yourself less of a target for those easy BR kills. These tips helped my game out a lot.
The only key is having Helioskrill. There is no other way.
Practice getting better with the magnum by playing warzone assault for a while so it’s a more low-stress environment. Being able to use that gun is a crucial part of doing well, as well as utilizing cover and thrusting to evade danger. Stick close to your team and work on your aim and you will get the hang of it.
How long have you been playing Halo 5?
What is your aim sensitivity set to and what is your aim acceleration at? What did you used to set it at in past Halo games?
Do you swap to your Magnum when the game starts?
Do you stick close to your teammates?
How you answer these questions can help determine what advice we can give you.

More info is needed so that the right tips can be given.
Do you know the basics of competitive Halo?
As the guy before me said, answer his questions.
I am very new to Halo 5. Like just the past few days but i have played all of the other halo games. Not too much of the online multiplayer. I’m just not a stranger to halo itself so it surprises me how poorly i am doing. That’s why i feel like I’m missing out on some of the new additions that may give me an edge. I switch to my magnum. I turned my sensitivity up as soon as i noticed players put aiming me. I don’t use the evade button at all. Or the air stall. I feel like the shields take more pistol bullets to drop than past halos but maybe I’m wrong. Been playing mostly slayer. And i think i sprint too much but usually when i spawn to try to regroup on my team.

The biggest problem you are probably having is that you just started and you’re playing against guys that have been playing for the past 2 months. Aiming is arguably different in Halo 5 than it has been in any other Halo game and does take a good amount of time to get used to. Some people here will probably have a lot of good tips about tweaking the aim settings to fit your preferences as well as some tips about the new abilities and when you should use sprint, but my biggest advice is to stick to it and keep playing. In time your skills will improve as you adjust to the controls.
Control power weapons. Even if you absolutely suck with them you’re at least keeping the enemy from using them against you.
Swap out your spawn weapons for pretty much anything on the map of similar role. They’re all more or less direct upgrades (at least at your current skill level).
Actually use Thruster. Much to my annoyance, it IS a reliable escape tool that will save your hide multiple times.
Only sprint when there’s nobody around.
Don’t go completely out of your way to get charge and pound kills. You’ll just get shredded in the process.
You want to stick with your team, but if they’re being stupid and over-extending then don’t follow them into the abyss.
Actually, just record a gameplay and send it to me.
Practice with the magnum. If you have friends then warm in in Octagon at the beginning of the day (it also improves your aim). Make sure your dead zones are at 0 and play around with your sens to see what’s best for you.

Dead zones question mark
Thrust is very important.
It can turn the tides in a firefight you’re losing.
Never use it early in an engagement.

In your controller settings, there is an option to change both inner and outer deadzones. You can read more about this here. I play with inner set to 0% and outer to 5%, but adjust accordingly for your play style and practice with settings for a bit before changing anything.
The things that help me most are patience and trying your best to stay calm. If you’re constantly rushing in and dying, then you miss out on chances to get more kills. If you’re worried about dying while you’re in the middle of a gunfight instead of concentrating on your aim, you’re probably going to lose that fight. Setup somewhere where you have an escape option or two, and stay close to your teammates for help and kill cleanup if you die.
Really, it’s just a matter of practice. Don’t get frustrated while you play and remember that it’s just a game.
Git gud skrub! Just kidding, I recommend playing Warzone Assault or social playlists to get warmed up each day. Everything else is mostly practice, but map knowledge is great too. All power ups (Active Camo, Overshield) spawn in exactly 2 minutes from when they are picked up. Watch the countdown when you pick up a power up and calculate the time when it’ll spawn. That trick helps quite a bit.

It might be embarrassing (god KNOWS I’d hate if someone saw me play) but a very skilled Halo gamer will be able to see a lot from a gameplay video
I’ll pray for you! but its okay! you can get better!!
I would recommend playing normal Warzone, where killing enemy players is not top priority.
12 v 12, more room for mistakes, more players to practice your shooting/aiming against, AI bosses etc.
You can work out the kinks slowly. Unless you prefer to jump into some high octane action and learn things through shock therapy in slayer.

Haha it would probably be embarrassing but I’m probably not as bad as you may think. And after watching a clip my friend just posted, i see how helpful the thrust can be. Thanks for the tips everyone. I’ll report back if i get gud or if anyone else has tips, feel free to drop them. Haha
