I would expect the declining player population has a direct impact on both player skill levels in a matchmaking lobby and server allocation to that lobby.
Definitely. The algorithm has to stretch to meet the players it has on hand.
But it also means we are coming up against wide ranged squads relatively more often. And sometimes multiple times in a row.
In the recent placement matches I played the same team five times! There were two Onxy players teamed up with a high Gold Smurf and a (genuine) Silver 2 to sandbag the opposition. Of course my random teams of mid to high Plats got served hard.
And last week - the same. A couple of times in a row vs an Onxy player and their lowly Gold Smurf. When you looked back at the Smurfâs playing history they had patches of where they would go 0 and 50+ in between helping their buddy rank up (scoring the same, if not better, than their Onyx pal).
Sigh.
I believe in clarityâŚ.
Back in H3 it started off showing the parameters that it was searching (if you were a 40) 35-45. Then the longer the search it would widen to 30 - 50.
This visual que helps.
Also this is ranked play. If you go into a lobby, as a Onyx/Diamond with golds you need to predict tears. It wouldnât be fair to match you with a bunch of golds. 1, you would win and your gold team would rank up putting them in tiers that they shouldnât be in and 2. You would rank up slowly, but still moving closer to the end goal not facing any righteous competition.
The system they use now is generous at evening out the teams. I would be much stricter in with regards to the highest ranked player.
Edit: I would also make it easier to join/make friends with similar ranked players. This Halo is the least most social of all the halos. I might as well be playing against ai.
All I want is to have a competitive game, where there is a chance of winning not getting smashed by elite players who simply make a new account once they get to a high level and no longer dominate games.
Start again and smash everyone, their are also a lot of boosters out there e.g Gamertag
Puck Futin xx this guy obliterated our match and afterwards admitted he was a paid booster ?
How am I getting matched with Onyx level when I am plat 2 and everyone else in lobby is low plats.
Just want to have fun poke your rank system
They released an article talking about the ranking system explaining in detail how it works⌠but the desired result is far from whatâs supposed to happenâŚ
I stopped playing this game over a month ago⌠I dont want to face in social high Diamond players, Onyx Players, ect. EVERY game⌠Like if we have 2 million people playing why am I always playing the .001%⌠Itâs broken⌠Ranked should be the only mode that has any MMR, Trueskill whatever 343 wants to call the broken system⌠Ranked should be a âfree for allâ like Halo 2 daysâŚ
Yea doesnât look fair, maybe your gold teammates were platinums or higher prior to reset? Really we need a solo only playlist and another playlist for 2 or more. Could force a random to join group of 3, or just allow 3v3. Consequences for all choices they make though. Sucks for groups but I see no real way around this. Putting caps on group difference would ruin it for many, boosters would find another way lol. Or we can just let ranked stay dead (though this doesnât solve the overall problem - your social matches are just as unfair - they just donât have a shiny pointless csr rating).
Though displaying csr is stupid anyway. Should just show you your MMR since thatâs your real rating. MMR is whatâs used to make teams âfairâ, not the pointless csr ranking they show us. Iâm just rambling at this point, but without champion ranks - ranked is 100% pointless except if you like the settings. You already know roughly where you lie skill wise, and chances are you nor I will ever increase enough to jump large gaps like from silver to diamond (bottom 15% roughly to top 15% roughly) between seasons or even over the course of infinites life.
The other side of the argument?
I canât play with friends because Iâm Onyx level and theyâre all gold!
I donât play ranked with them, however the games awful matchmaking system will force my friends to fight against full diamond / onyx players whenever I go into 4v4 or BTB.
343i basically removed playing with friends at the launch of Halo Infinite, yet they wonder why 97% of the population have left!
Yup. The matchmaking is completely scuffed in Halo Infinite. My friends and I range from silver to Onyx and trying to play together in any playlist is a miserable experience. It seems to only care that there is an Onyx on our team and stacks the opponents as Diamond and Onyx.
We can go into MCC and have a great time. Some games we win, some games we lose. But we definitely donât always face teams that are completely stacked against us. Plus, in MCC we can start with battle rifles in other playlists besides ranked.
༼ 㥠ಠ_ಠ༽㥠Summon Collision
Iâm sorry this happened to you. I just stopped playing. Just play the mcc
Smurfing seems a big problem. Anecdotally it seems to be getting worse. Especially, as you describe, using them to boost other peopleâs accounts.
The jarring comes when people look to the skill rank as something to reward them with every win - or as something to grind.
And to some extent 343 are to blame as they have kind of portrayed it as such.
But itâs not. Itâs a system to find your rank (as quickly as possible) so that it can be used to make matches.
Square pegs. Round holes.
Unless of course you are high Diamond, Onyx.
In which case, play on.
As an aside, I always find it fascinating that Silver players just want to play Silver. Gold play Gold etc. They seem comfortable in close and competitive matches. But for some reason Onyx players hate playing other Onyx players.
As a ranking system itâs only broken if it canât find your skill quickly.
It does. Therefore not broken.
How the game and/or matchmaking use that rank is a different question entirely.
God no. That monotonous slow sorting of rank that took forever - with game after game that was horribly mismatched. The point of this thread is that lower ranked players donât want to play Onyx players.
I donât think the problem is necessarily solo vs squads. TrueSkill2 applies weightings to squads and their form. The problem comes when you allow squads with wide range of skills (eg. Onyx playing with Silver). This allows them to smurf and sandbag the system.
Take that out and the problem is fixed.
You need some sort of CSR. Your MMR is a curve - and at the start (or post placement) it can be quite wide. You need a way of âsummarisingâ it. But when your rank has matured (narrow curve) your MMR and CSR are close enough to be the same. So I wouldnât get too hung up on any âmysterious hiddenâ MRR.
Depends. Champion of top 200 is pointless. The system is just not that accurate - especially as players get further and further away from each other. Some sort of top % would be ok. Say, the equivalent of Onyx 6 (if Onyx had tiers).
And that is the reality of your skill rank in a nutshell.
People want something to grind and/or reward them for good form. Something more immediate. So we need an XP rank system ASAP.
Itâs tough to make that work. Really tough.
The alternative is putting up a bunch of Gold players to play against you. But why should a bunch of strangers suffer so that your Gold friend, who has chosen this situation, can have a bit of fun.
Assuming of course your Gold buddy actually gets any kills - they will probably spend the whole game running behind you as your rack up multi-kill after mult-kill.
The reality of the mis-match is that you, as the Onyx, have to work hard to kill lots of people, while your Silver buddy just has to work hard to survive.
I canât see any other way that is fair to your opponents.
Iâve always said we need a playlist where good players are nerfed and bad players buffed (eg. shields, damage output, ability to pick up power weapons)- so that everyone can play together on a level playing field. The changes could even be applied dynamically on respawn depending on your K/D and the team scores.
Effectively you wouldnât need any SBMM at all!
But, inevitably. the conversation ends when the Onyx player realises that, in this situation, they canât run around committing killtrocities - and suddenly spending the afternoon with their Silver buddy doesnât sound half as fun.
This happens to me all the time. Almost every match. Me, and maybe one other dude on my team will be doing alright, but there is always that one enemy that stomps us, and afterward when I check they are typically diamond, or on rare occasions onyx. I am platinum 2âŚ
Dang you wrote all that⌠the ranking system is broken bring back Halo 2/3 end of story⌠if it ainât broken donât change itâŚ
Except that H2 wasnât much of a ranking system - incredibly slow and notorious for woefully matched games.
And H3 was the epitome of âbrokenâ. If the hidden 20 levels werenât bad enough, letâs throw in rank locking for good measure.
You are not alone. Ever since season 2 dropped ive been all rumble pit and btb because i will get curb stomped every other match or so, playing against high diamond players when i myself am not cracked in the slightest.
Iâm Plat 4 - 5 player, low Diamond at best.
To me matchmaking looks pretty fair to be honest.
I see the same Plat players as me all the time, some Gold and Diamond players in both teams, Onyx rarely.
Even if only one team has Onyx, the teams look kinda equal most time.
Sometimes both teams are Plat or Plat with one Gold guy, but other team just kills you heavily or you them.
Idk, Iâm talking by myself of course , maybe Iâm just lucky but I have way better time with ranked than Halo 5 which ranking system was complete garbage.
The matchmaking system should be different in normal modes and in the rankings. In normal mode - play with friends. Is no friendship in the rating. If you want to be ranked, learn how to play. If you donât want to study, go to normal modes. The exception is custom matches (for tournaments, for example). Now everything is broken. Matchmaking looks like itâs calculating a team average. One super player and 3 rookies, and on average they are average. One is eating meat, three are eating flatbread, on average, all four of them are eating shawarma.
