I am a competitive player...

like the title says… im a competitive player and have been so ever since CE… i stopped playing reach and havent played in about a year, it was not competitive and it was bland/borring.

im worried for h4, im already seeing really big problems with the game competitive wise, such as the autograb for the flag and oddball, the last thing you want to do when you are trying to lock down the enemies position so you can run the flag is accidentally pick it up… speakin of run the flag, that seems to be out of the question now as well…

i see substantial problems with the autograb in oddball, for one if you are in a battle with someone and accidentally walk over the ball when you strafe, you pick it up and cant shoot and now you’re dead, and also i see a lot of problems with accidental catching, if you are holding the ball and someone starts shooting you, you can just throw the ball at them and cause them to catch it and now they arent able to shoot you until they git rid of the ball, now you’ve got the upperhand even though the other player clearly had you…
needless to say another problem will be players throwing the ball into places that you arent able to get to, such as a nook above or below the map… or just constantly being ablow to throw the ball across the map, off the map… you can depending on map literally “play ball” from anywhere on a given map…

i think “throwing” is kinda cool but should be tuned down and not be able to throw it that far, added weight or gravity to the ball.

ctf and oddball need to be fixed in future updates, im calling it right now, people will not like the auto-grab, from a competitive perspective.

now i understand i will probably get a lot of crap for this post like “get over it” “move on” “who cares” stuff like that but remember, like i said i have been playing since halo first came out and i LOVE the competitve aspect of it, so for all of YOU that are more casual and dont play as much competitive, this topic is not for you, you dont have to voice your opinion here cause im tired of hearing “halo has changed you gotta move forward get with the new” and thats cool and all but from a COMPETITIVE stand point, the changes are in the wrong direction… im just worried the competitve community will die out shortly after the games release like it did with reach… please fix this auto grab nonsense, thank you

i know relize that probly a lot of this forums runs rampant with immature kids that want nothing more than to just troll and purposely vote against for what im tryin to go for here so for that i probly will not be viewing any more responses from this post… i wanted responses from competitive gamers but so far have gotten everything except that, and to all of the people like that, that are reading this now, i say grow up.

this thread now has a mind of its own and was not in any way what i was going for here…

I’m going to be picking up as many flags as possible. I love that I can now run and jump the same speed and that I get a magnum to use as well.

> if you are holding the ball and someone starts shooting you, you can just throw the ball at them and cause them to catch it

That actually sounds hilarious.

Enemy: “This guy is so dead…wait what the…I have the ball? FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU…!!!”

I seriously doubt that when custom updates are available that “competitive” or “pro” players will be using auto pick-up, if they don’t have too. Although some competitive players may not have an inherit issue with the “new” CTF, it’s already been thrown around that it won’t be suitable in the competitive arena. So I can see the “classic” CTF in some fashion being used.

First of all, Welcome to Waypoint!

Secondly, i’m a ‘competitive’ player myself and because of Reach’s lack of competitiveness, i searched for Halo 4 info since its reveal
hoping for it to be better from this particular point of view than its predecessor.

All i have to say to you is, some changes may seem strange or bad but if you got all the information that i got, you would understand that this game will be FAR more competitive than Reach ever was, don’t worry.

Lol, I can see myself going around the corner and just seeing two guys throwing the ball at each other while trying to get a few shots off.

Auto Pick-Up in Oddball could create some hilarious game-type options that Forgers will have some fun with.

“New” person on the forums, first and only post again about this topic…

How can I even take this seriously?

Just to point out, that’s not old, just easier to do now
As for Flagnum, “I’ll take the flag or drive/gun, just pick one yourself and get moving.”

As for Oddball, tossing the ball for a perfect catch followed by a sniper/rock/shotgun kill, followed by a pass back… That’s going to be awesome and coordinated on a few maps

yeah i understand, thats for customs though… which is another reason i didnt like reach, custom games and MM were two COMPLETELY different experiences… if they have a “pro” or “skilled” playlist then they should probly use different settings otherwise what is the difference? i dont want to constantly HAVE to play customs to play the game i want. everybody plays customs in reach which is why MM is dead.

if you would have read the topic i clearly said “you dont have to voice your opinion here” yet you did, nice goin troll, thank you

Cool story bro. There going to make this game more casual b/c there are more casual gamers then selfproclamed PRO gamers. Why do you think COD sells a bajillion copies every year. It’s casual as in no skill as in anyone can pick it up, play it and have a good time b/c everyone is good at it.

Sorry, but it’s a little fishy that this always seems to be the topic for people’s first post and most of the time it are just second accounts…

As for this topic, I’ve been playing since Halo: CE first came out as well.
Although I always play competitive, I’m happy with many changes like this one.

I thought the changes was for the competitive people. Last time I check competitive FPS have loadouts, ect. I’m in between competitive and casual and I hate to see competitive players say every change they hate was for casual players. Auto flag pickup is not a problem. Thinking you will accidently pick it up is crazy, However auto up for the odd ball maybe bad cause you could throw it at someone so they can’t shoot at you and kill them. I don’t think people know what competitive mean anymore, just try the game. You’ll probably like the changes. Also for he most part all types of players hated reach not just competitives.

Forgive me if I missed something but I didn’t think the Oddball was auto pickup as well. I remember when they were at RTX, I believe they said the guys are getting good at catching the ball because you still needed to press the action button to pick it up. Hope that is sill the case. I’m alright for now about auto flag pickup because of normal speed and the flagnum, but unless I can still shoot while holding the ball, that scenario may not be favorable.

this is not a second account… maybe people just really care for the game like i do and dont want it going downhill competitively wise cause thats all we play for… i only have one GT, im not going to make another one just so i can post a thread on waypoint forums are you for real?

I don’t know how to answer the question because I haven’t played CTF on Halo 4 yet, however I have mixed feelings about the idea of not being able to drop the flag.

I can see a lot of noobs ruining everyones fun by not knowing where to take the flag.

I think that the flag drop function should be able to be toggled in the game type.

it is auto-pick up, i have seen some leaked multiplayer gameplay

There not going to change the game just b/c you dont like it. Saying that your a hardcore or diehard halo fan does not make what you say matter more then anybody else.

This game is made for more casual gamers sorry. Get over it. I will say that your right about auto pick up tho.

Nice insult to the Casual crowd, but no they are not only catering to the Casual crowd. If they were, there would’nt be half as many pre-orders and this forum would be dead.
