These newer gamers are coming into a universe with millions of fans and nearly 15 years of expansion on it’s belt. They will be overwhelmed and have never ending questions as to what is going on. They will flood the forums and message boards whining and complaining or flat out being negative about what they’re playing despite having never played all the games prior.
With the Master Chief Collection launching soon it means all of us Veterans can re-experience our favorite games in stunning 1080p 60FPS on a new generation of console with seamless switching in one disc. Although it sounds great, they’re catering the games to the new generation of players in the wrong way. I like this, but I also don’t approve of how it’s all being done.
I’m afraid the newer and younger generation will see all these previews for Halo 2 anniversary and Halo 5, but they won’t be bothered to play CE or 3 because they only want the latest and greatest. They’ll either be too caught up in the newer styles of Halo 4 and the Halo 5 beta to bother loading up some CE or Halo 2 with their original graphics and scores to see Halo in it’s Glory days. They’ll be confused with what’s all going on. No idea for the story, who chief is, and why it’s happening. They’ve stepped into a world that is beyond them.
Don’t think I’m saying anniversary treatments shouldn’t happen, or that they shouldn’t release all at once. I’m just saying that if they want to invite the newer generations in, try to push them in the direction of starting from the beginning rather than jumping into the heat of the moment and skipping 15 years of excellence. Halo is most enjoyable with a strong understanding of what’s going on, so playing 1-4 will only enhance the experience.
It has been 13 years, not 15.
Some new kids will just play the new games. So what? Most people who get the MCC will try out all of the games and decide which ones they like best and play that. A few won’t. There’s no way, or reason, to force them to.
What kid has an XBOX One? Or who has the new XBOX and has never played Halo before?
You’ve met people with an XBOX One that have never played Halo before?..That is sad.
I think it’s a great way to re-establish the MC for a new generation (even if that’s the case, I see it more as a thank you to the fans more than anything) and if they’ve got it there, playing any of them should get them excited to play the rest and want to learn more. There’s a lot you can’t learn from playing all the games, that you have to read the books or scour the internet for. We all love these games, for the same or differing reasons, and those new to it being handed this great bundle will encourage a new batch of fans for sure. I fear you’re worried about people not appreciating it, the ‘young ones’, but I believe this is one of the best steps that could’ve been taken.
All we can do is be welcoming to the new fans and if they come in here asking questions then we guide them to their answers or give them the answers. Be tolerable (to an extent.) to them and they’ll see the Halo community is at least friendly and welcoming and not “shout” back at them if they are upset because that will just confirm their feelings towards Halo if that situation goes sour.
I’ve played the original Halo when my son had the original Xbox. I haven’t played again until I was given a 360 this past Christmas. I am really enjoying what I missed out on earlier. I guess I would be considered a rookie to the Halo universe, but since coming to Waypoint, I have found the community very welcoming & helpful. I have been playing solo in campaign mode to learn the games. I have finished Reach & am close to finishing Halo CE anniversary edition. I have all but Spartan Assault & Spartan Strike. I enjoy every game & the differences of each game. I’m looking forward to playing multi - player here as soon as I feel comfortable. I also have enjoyed the books. I look forward to seeing everyone on the battlefield. I think the MCC will bring a new generation of fans to the Halo universe.

If you own a Xbox and have never played Halo I feel sad for you and let down.
Now that you bring this up, I’m scared, but I didn’t even think about it. Thanks. Haha but really thats a thought
I don’t mind.
I will have a great time, that’s the important thing…
Well one thing that will help out is : The MCC isnt overHyped, we know what we are getting. They cant promise things that wont end up in the final product, so that should help cut out the Whinning and hate mail a little.
But ive played all the Halo`s in my younger days and im getting this MCC out of nostaligia and a need to cram as many hours as possible into a game ive loved so much. All on one consol and all with graphics that will appeal to me. I know i might get some hate for this but : i played Halo CE anniversary on the 360 of a friend and i thought damn i cant wait for MCC for better graphics.
I know graphics doesnt make the game, but it does help making it more appealing when your surrounded by artful games.
