Yeah I know a few people and got to visit 343 for a day and get a nice tour. First of all, the parking lot was impressive. Ferraris, Teslas, Porsches, Maseratis… you name it and it was there. They should put on their own company car show. One even had a license plate that said “GETREQD”. Once I got inside i found exactly what i thought I would, a bunch of nice people developing video games. Shocker, it isn’t a bunch of robots but it is in fact people that have families and aren’t -Yoinks!- who would have thought of that.
They have the facility kind of divided into two sections, one to work on halo 6 and one to work on halo 5. The halo 6 section took up about 70% of the office space while the halo 5 section only had about 30%. I checked out the halo 5 section first. There were roughly around 10 employees in that area and all but one of them was working on sweet new REQs for halo 5. They had all these drawings up and models of all the new weapon skins, weapons, armors, and vehicles they slowly are going to add to REQ packs to make sure people keep buying them. Then there was the one guy off by himself in the corner. He looked really strung out and disheveled, apparently he had the responsibility of adding new game modes and maps…
Well I moved onto the halo 6 section and to my surprise, it was practically empty. There was a sign on the door that said “Out to lunch early”. But other than that the whole space was just weird. There was one whiteboard I could see with the date “Nov. 2018” written on it and then a bunch of jibberish Sanghelli I couldn’t understand. Then there was a trash can in the middle of the room with a life-sized master chief model standing in it and a can of gasoline next to it. I decided to stop exploring then and left, the whole thing was a little creepy.

Which is exactly what you think when you play their broken and unfinished products right? Their passion for halo and it’s lore and its dedicated fanbase totally comes through when they add microtransactions and try to slowly push master chief out the door in favor of locke and turn cortana into a villain.

But its distributed between hundreds of people. Lets say they get 15,000,000 dollars, thats alot yet divide it between 100 people (which is far below what they have working for them) and its 150,000, money goes fast when it needs to be distributed among workers.

I left out a zero in my original post, I mean 150,000, 15,000 would be absurd. But the truth of the matter is that 343 employees hardly make any money. Game development is not a well paying job, especially not for the grunt workers who are probably only making around 60,000 a year max.
Yeah theyre getting paid, theyre getting paid dirt to be criticized by fans, do none of youu understand the stress and exhaustion of making a game, look as masahiro sakurai who straight up quit the gaming industry because he couldnt handle the stress of fans. You people have no clue what the game development industry looks like and have no respect for this selfless job.

How many people do you think work for 343, 300 sounds about right to me. According to Xbox halo 5 sold 400 million dollars worth of copies. I think 343 is getting paid just fine.

You forget tax, shipping costs, development costs (this game took 3 years to make mind you not one), etc. Take a high school level economics class if you want to understand how mass payments like this work. the 400,000,000 is mostly covering the costs of development (hiring theaters for musical scores etc) and it just goes on

No, trust me I have a clue and I respect 343 for what they’re doing, which is why I don’t completely say that they have broken Halo and made it a terrible game. I understand how hard it is, have you coded C# or made a 3D model, what about level design, know anything about how to make weapon placement work? I’m almost neutral to 343 because I know how hard their job is, but they are getting hate for reasons which can be justified in the eyes of Halo veterans.
Guess I’ll be the 1st to point out that I find the last 2 sentences interesting. Red Flag perhaps? Death of Chief or Master Chief Bonfire preparations?

I don’t exactly understand how much that means, because I’m just entering high school. I know 400 million is a lot but I know that they’ve also got to spend tons of that.

Sorry but I gotta disagree on one point. I highly, HIGHLY doubt that they spent 400 million developing this game. RockStar spent less than 300 million making GTAV(I can’t remember the exact amount I was thinking around 260 to 280 million but I could be wrong). Even if your number is close. I would say that a lot of that development will be of use in the next game so at least some of it is as much of an investment as an expense. One example, the matchmaking. Thats near perfect. They should be able to use that in the next game. I also read somewhere that they basically rebuilt the game engine from the ground up for this game. I would think that will not have to be done for the next game.

No one (at least not myself) is criticizing the actual game developers themselves. The ones that sit and code for hours on end. They are being told what to do from higher ups who make all the money and they make the decisions that are being criticized. Do you think some dude making 60k a year decided, “Hey I am going to take split screen out?” -Yoink- no he didn’t. The only game developer I can honestly criticize who probably isn’t raking in the dough as a VP is whoever did the art design for this game, it is unbelievably bad for a AAA title.

Dear lord if they use the same engine for halo 6 we are all in for another -Yoink- show.
