It feels uesfull but not too op, like a sidearm should, maybe it COULD use some nerfing, but overall I think it will be a step in the right direction.

I hated the overly large reticule and the sound. Obviously bloom to but that goes for everything.
I probably wouldn’t have minded it if it weren’t for the Bloom. Not talking about the actual bloom here, but I really hate how all of the guns do the expanding reticule animation after you switch to the gun, reload, and when you shoot. It’s not even needed for the Sniper rifle, yet it’s there.
Reach pistol was fine, the God Pistol from CE and in CEA…X(
Nerfing? I thought that it maybe should of been buffed a bit!
What it DID need however was a larger magazine.

It’s funny how they “gave” us Halo Combat Evolved Anniversary with the so-called CE pistol and we got something that holds 8 shots a clip and 40 shots maximum.
I really liked the Reach pistol as well.
At Bloom Naysayers: Bloom counteracts the high rate of fire of the pistol. Think about it, if we snagged the Halo 3 pistol and just made it fire really fast we could have a pretty good gun on our hands.
However, my favorite pistol was the Halo 3: ODST pistol.

Mine too. As long as it didn’t take two mags to drop shields(7-9 shot kill) I would be a great way to bridge the gap between utility weapons and Snipers because of its superb accuracy and 4x scope. But still be limited by mag size and recoil therefore not being a utility weapon and providing a unique role
Other than bloom, I liked it. Maybe without the bloom the RoF should be slowed a tiny bit, but other than that it was a good, balanced pistol.

I agree with everything you say. While the Reach pistol was great for Spartan on Spartan action, the ODST pistol was great for taking out non-shielded targets, which was a huge deal in that game.
Though if I had to pick between the behaviour of the Reach pistol and ODST pistol for Halo 4, I would go with the Reach pistol. It was powerful enough to be a useful weapon in many situations, but it wasn’t so powerful that it overshadowed other weapons.
I like the Reach pistol. It won’t ever compete with Combat Evolved, but that’s for the better. The DMR would be useless then…

They commented a few weeks before Anniversary came out saying that they couldn’t increase the clip size in the Title Update, it was planned though.
I liked Reach’s pistol as it fit quite well in the Reach sandbox. For example:
Long / Medium Range - DMR > Pistol
Short Range - Pistol > DMR
This was also true in CE. When 343 made CEA however, they buffed the pistol and left all the other weapons the same (please correct me if I’m wrong). This made CEA dominated by the pistol, as it didn’t fit into Reach’s sandbox.
I think 343 will make the necessary changes to the pistol, and it will play quite well with the other Halo 4 weapons.
Thought i don’t use the pistol very much i did like it a lot.
Nothing’s gonna beat Halo 2’s dual wielding pistol for me though… Nothing like be the last one alive in a zombie game with 2 full pistols

Sidearms have no place in the Halo sandbox. Games that have sidearms force their use through a primary and secondary weapon carry system and also give benefits to having a sidearm, such as quick draw. Halo doesn’t really work like that - everything should have a primary weapon benefit.
I would prefer the pistol to be a utility weapon that is better than other utilities at short and short-medium range. That DOESN’T mean it should automatically lose to the other utility weapons at longer ranges - we want to avoid rock, paper, scissor gameplay. Easy solution is that it has a higher rate of fire, no bloom, same shots to kill as the other utility weapons, but lacks a scope or only has a 1.5x scope. A DMR-like weapon (also without bloom) would have an advantage at longer range because of the 3x scope, but a more skilled pistol user could still easily best a mediocre DMR user at long range.
THAT is what we need - weapons that have niches but that are not impossible to use outside those niches. Everything should have a niche but hard lines between niches need to be blended more to avoid rock, paper, scissors.

Here’s the beauty of the ODST pistol. It has “sidearm” damage(which would obviously be stronger than it was in ODST, say 7-9 shot kill), but it still has a very powerful role in the sandbox because of its 4x scope and accuracy.
It was incredibly useful in its own right. The Carbine was still a superior utility weapon but the Automag beat the stuffing out of it at long range.
Unlike the DMR it was a true long range niche weapon and not a utility weapon with a movement choking scope). Balanced by controllable recoil and low number of kills per mag. It was still capable of use at close range because of the high rate of fire and still superior to the carbine at long range.
The utility weapons can still be utility weapons, but the Automag played a unique role without truly replacing utility weapons or being pushed to the side as a “sidearm” like the H2/H3 pistols.
Also, I am sick and tired of slow rof 8 shot pistols(The ideal fire rate for the Reach pistol was still fairly slow…)
I prefered the H3 pistol. It should be buffed in damage not RoF and it should remain without a scope.
> It’s funny how they “gave” us Halo Combat Evolved Anniversary with the so-called CE pistol and we got something that holds 8 shots a clip and 40 shots maximum.
I believe 343 stated that the Reach UI and HUD is too built in to change by means of a TU and so the ammunition amount could have been change in terms of the number of bullets per clip you could actually shoot, but the display for your ammunition could not be changed, so the feature was dropped.
This may or may not be 100% true, I suspect these elements are manipulatable (such as with zero bloom) but are exceedingly difficult.
The ODST pistol was the best one. Great feel when using it. I found myself running out of ammo pretty quick because of how much I used it.
> Also, I am sick and tired of slow rof 8 shot pistols(The ideal fire rate for the Reach pistol was still fairly slow…)
Agreed.
The small clip size was a horrible decision. Bloom for the pistol was also bad.
The ideal pistol is one with clip size of 12 and recoil.
