Then why wouldn’t they just call it Halo 6? That’s what I mean. It may take place after Halo 5, but I feel like they would call it 6 if it was really intended to be that.

Because they don’t need to? They’ve been talking about dropping the numbers since Halo 4, 5 was a step towards that and this is them now doing it. Whether it has a number in the title or not doesn’t make it any more or less of a Halo game

As the others have said, Halo Infinite is a direct sequel to Halo 5 Guardians. Also, that article you linked is 14 months old, it followed the E3 2018 reveal when we didn’t know much at all.
People who keep saying that Halo Infinite is a spin off are acting like the ones who say that the earth is flat: they just don’t care about evidences.
