Hype Culture is not good for players

I have been noticing a lot of negativity about Halo 5: Guardians and hopefully in this thread I can attempt at solving these issues that others have been complaining about. Before we continue I’m not blaming everything on the hype culture. But their is a large amount that the Hype culture is reasonable for.
Lets start with:
Halo 5’s Marketing, I personally don’t find anything wrong with Halo 5’s marketing strategy, which was to sell us the game. What some people have trouble understanding is video game trailers are meant to get your interested in buying the game. Same thing with movie trailers. If you have lowered expectations, you will enjoy the game or movie more.

Halo 5’s Multiplayer, Plays a lot more smoothly than previous Halo titles. Clambering is useful, Spartan Charge and Ground Pound forces players to be alert, Smart-Scope makes every weapon useful, Sprint and Slide play effectively, Thrusters are an interesting addition to the Spartan abilities, Hip-firing actually feels welcomed in Halo 5. The radar in Halo 5 is decent but I don’t rely on it.
The Req System is random and yet it was easy to get every unlock that you can get from the Req System. I only hate Micro Transactions when I’m forced to buy it but in games like Halo 5, you can earn it in game. Warzone is great to play with friends or alone depending on your play style. Arena is a great competitive experience.
Halo 5’s forge is a way better forge than previous Halo games.

Halo 5’s Campaign, was good but not great however there were many missions that were interesting especially the Intels that were hidden throughout the campaign.
Halo 5’s campaign was over hyped by people and when the game was released so many people were disappointed in Halo 5.

Let’s move on to something recent:
Memories Of Reach: So many people got excited when they first heard that name. A lot of people wanted the Falcon to return however, If the Falcon was to be featured in Halo 5, it would be utterly under powered in Warzone and Arena. In Warzone, if someone spawned in a Falcon and got 3 people in it. They would become an easy triple kill for anyone who can spawn in Reqs.
When Memories Of Reach came, many people were disappointed with the update. Because their was no Forge World and no Falcon.
I don’t understand why do we have to over hype things that were never confirmed?
It really ruins the game for anyone with that mindset.

Feel free to type your thoughts, I would enjoy a discussion about this topic.

I 100% agree whit you.

Thank you.

I really don’t want this thread ignored.

So what happens when people don’t have high expectations for the game and still get let down or still dislike those aspects of the game listed in the OP? Like me for example.

What did you expect from Halo 5? And what don’t you like about it?

This thread just seems to be 80% “Halo 5 is great” and 20% “don’t set your expectations too high”.

My expectations are pretty much rock bottom at this point, but my standards remain unchanged.

Hype culture is stupid and I hate how everyone flocks to whatever is the most hyped and mainstream at the time. Yet you can’t blame all of a game’s genuine faults on hype culture alone. In a lot of ways Halo 5 didn’t just fail to live up to hype, it failed to live up to the basic standards established by previous titles.

Pretty much what Ramir3z77 said.

People still over hyped it nonetheless and how did it exactly fail in standards established by the previous titles? And I didn’t say you should blame everything on the hype culture however, The Hype will always ruins the games and movies if people expected that much from it.

Well for one the amount of content it launched with and the campaign.

-The game launched with essentially just three arena modes. Three. Slayer, Strongholds, CTF.
-It’s still missing various modes. Sure maybe no one gave a -Yoink- about rarely seen modes like VIP and so on, but why are beloved modes like Assault still missing?
-There’s only a small handful of completely original maps. Was the game really so rushed they couldn’t give us a good assortment of maps?
-There’s still no proper fileshare system.
-Why do they struggle so much with playlist management ever since Halo 4? Slayer should’ve been removed from Team Arena ages ago, and they never add any new playlists or any new content to existing playlists. -Yoinks!- sake we have the best forge yet, people have made amazing arena maps with it, and they’re not even utilizing those maps. I’m sure any random community map is still way better than garbage like Pegasus.

I could probably go on.

Yes the game was lacking content that previous Halo games had except Halo 5’s content got better over the months since Launch.
The campaign wasn’t perfect But than again what Halo had a perfect campaign?

I do agree with you, we do need a file share system and the maps are decent but everyone is not going to enjoy every single map that 343 industries makes.

Yeah 343 added content but not nearly enough. This game still pales in comparison (in terms of playlist) to reach. We’re still missing playlists like snipers, team doubles, action sack etc. We just recently got infection lol.

Although no halo had a perfect campaign, the H5 campaign is considered the worst campaign in the franchise by many people.

Halo: Reach, the only thing good about that game is the Custom games and firefight. The campaign is the worst and it had one character that had character development because The only character that had character development was Jorge. Halo: Reach is considered by many a disappointment to the Halo franchise.

You know what is funny? Halo: Reach was actually the first Halo that you could farm.
If you wanted to rank up fast and get credits real easily you could farm Grifball for it.

Also what do you mean by adding content to existing playlists?

And we had Free for all and Break Out at launch

I agree with everything except for the marketing part. If I were the kind of person who paid attention to Halo 5 before it’s release, then I would have probably been pretty upset. However, I was not the kind who gave a rip about the advertisements, because I was beyond skeptical of this game until I tried it!

Although yeah, I love the MM. It’s a lot less laggy than Halo 3 and Reach, I feel, and it plays very well. And don’t even get me started on how stupid I thought the whole “I want a Falcon” thing was…

I know right. I generally don’t care for the advertisements and I don’t judge games on them.

To be fair, 343 has utilized community maps for the playlists of BTB and modes of grifball/infection (even though Bloodsport is the only grifball map to establish different game play). Now you can argue whether those maps play well in their preferred modes in terms of map design and spawning, and 343 should most definitely adopt this method of adding maps in their ranked arena playlists/game modes. To say that they have never added content to the existing playlists is a bit of a stretch tbh, considering how they do make a new map every month or so. I do agree with everything else however.

I don’t blame you, Halo 5 was missing content but what is funny to me is how we still play Halo 5 to this day.
