now in my opinion the Hydra is the worst weapon in 5, I don’t understand what 343 was thinking when they introduced yet another heavy wepon. now if you’re going to create another worthless weapon and give it what should be a basic feature “lock on”. it shouldn’t be just in spartan link. it should have a close range “lock on”.

wouldn’t that make it too easy to use though?
You misunderstand the role of the weapon- it’s an “ambush” weapon. It’s not meant for 1v1 shootouts. It’s effective at killing unsuspecting enemies quickly and without the ability to fight back.
It’s one of my favorite weapons. I maxed that out a long time ago. Yes, close range it’s not the best, but that’s not how you should use it. Medium to long range is where it shines! Still miss my Grenade launcher though.
It’s always either the Hydra or the Plasma caster when it comes to the debate of the two. Me personally, I’m not much of a Hydra fan myself, but it does have it advantages.
Best for sneak attacks. If you have a clear shot at their back, you can take them out easily.

I really don’t think so. Its not a one hit kill. As well it is easy to boost fwd and to a side to dodge, even if it is locked on at close quarters.
I agree. I hate the Hydra SO much! Useless
The weapon isn’t bad I feel, but I think it should be out of 4-4 arena play. The maps are just too small for it and cluttered (the maps in general aren’t small just for the weapon I think) I feel it works great in Warzone and in BTB. People also don’t seem to know when to use it. It’s a catch the enemy off guard weapon which in 4-4 doesn’t happen piles I find.
2 shots kill full health/shield spartan. Pretty effective
The only true hard counter to the hydra is to remain outside the range or drop LoS. Thrusting properly can break the lock, sure. But much like other lock on weapons it isn’t a sure fire way to survive. It just means you plan for it, fire a shot or two to force a thrust, lock on again and finish the target. Even in close combat the weapon is functional. You just have to aim it instead of relying on the lock to do it for you. People claiming the gun is bad just don’t play to its strengths. And people who claim it is a noob gun don’t exploit its weaknesses.
The plasma caster is in the same boat. The gun isn’t bad. It is just different…
The hydra is one of the best weapons in halo 5. There are two types of people in halo 5. Those who use the hydra for the raining down rockets from range, and the ones who sit at the same level as the other team and try to lock onto them, and then complain how they can’t get kills with it. The hydra is a RANGED weapon. It a weapon that you use when you are far away from your target. I usually like to pick of groups of people at range with the hydra. When used correctly, it’s really good.
But at range only a fool would die from it. Ya know just step behind something.

Unless you pull a Javelin-style curve on them. Seen any of the gifs of the Hydra curving around cover of you aim it to the side or up after a lock on? Like this. Also there’s some really crazy stuff that can happen like this and this. It’s a really great weapon.
The Hydra is actually really good when you know how to use it. If your at mid range and there’s not a lot of cover it only take 2 shots to kill. In warzone the variants only make if better by adding faster rate of fire. The echidna is also great because people already use base hydra for vehicles but echidna EMPs vehicles making ti even better. Again it’s a situational weapon. Just need to know how to use it.

Thanks for the videos. That’s awesome.

And I don’t understand how the hell the Caster works. How are you supposed to use that thing?

I didn’t make those clips, just found them on Reddit
They are quite creative with the Hydra there.
It dominates on Noctus due to the sightlines, I’d give it a go on that map if you have trouble using it. But in close quarters it sucks but that is because it is not meant for close quarters just like shotguns are terrible snipers.
