As someone who loved the weapon in Halo 5, I think that the Hydra has lost much of its identity in Infinite in both form and function. The silhouette is too similar to the AR and the damage for the homing, as seen in vids of people who glitched into customs, just doesn’t look great as the homing mode doesn’t track nearly as well as the H5 version. Here’s some of my ideas on how to improve the design:
- Shave down the “nose” of the gun to give it its old silhouette back - Add an emmisive, like a laser or something, to the front of the display module that turns on while in homing mode to give attentive enemies the info of which mode you’re on, sort of like how the Heatwave works when swapping between modes - Keep the damage the same between modes, I think a 3 shot against spartans is fair enough for how much ammo it has when fully loaded. Just weaken the firing rate or blast radius of the homing missiles compared to normal onesThese changes should help it regain it’s former identity while not being too powerful. I will say is that we don’t know the intended roll of the weapon. It may be meant as an anti air weapon, though air vehicles are too weak to require such a counter. I’m open to hear any of your opinions on what could or should be changed to the Hydra to put it into a better place.
