So I have played games competitively all my life, since I was 15 when Halo CE came out, and I have always followed eSports. Every other successful game with a presence in eSports has significantly more advertising. HWC starts next Friday and there has been hardly any advertisement or chatter about it. I love Halo, and I want it to succeed; in fact, I want it to blow up to League of Legends size. 343i has built a very solid game, at least on the competitive aspect, but they have a horrible marketing group. If this were any other eSports game, the title screen of the game would be redesigned as an ad for the HWC, the website main page and every page would have something advertising the tournament. They could even spend a little money on internet and TV ads. I don’t believe the HWC will have more than 500,00 views, including rebroadcast by the end.
You guys have got to start pushing this more. Fire your marketing leads and get some competent people in there. I am very disappointed… and I am very worried (and confident) this historic HWC will be a bust…
Edit: Some additional points about the ineffectiveness of the 343i Marketing department I posted a little farther down:
I go to Halo Waypoint and the main page has a very short 48 second video on the teams. The huge title screen is all about “Hammer Storm!” I mean, great 343i, you want to push your newest content release, but you have a $2.5M championship around the corner. The Hammer Storm content update is a side note. That huge Hammer Storm graphic needs to be replaced with a giant HWC graphic that links directly to the eSports page of the Community section of the website.
That is another horrible thing. I have to go to Halo Waypoint, then go to Community, and I see nothing about the HWC until I scroll 3 screens down and find a few ~40 second videos. I have to click on the eSports link of the community subpage before I find anything focused on the HWC.
Even more atrocious is that I log into the game and the message of the day doesn’t even have anything related to the HWC… They couldn’t even figure out how to put an HWC graphic over the UNSC Infinity on the Halo 5 title screen.
I really feel like 343i is doing a horrid job at pushing this.
I’m not sure man, have you gone to the theater recently? I saw a HWC trailer before the movie started it was sick!! I wish this game would get popular as league, eSports is the best path for Halo for sure!
As far as esports go, no game will be bigger than LoL or Dota in the near future. That being said, I don’t think HWC will be a bust. The xgames had some pretty good numbers and I think this will be higher.

Personally I have found the current HCS/HWS to be amazing and have found the games either informational on strategies or just fun to watch.

Agreed. I have no idea what these guys are talking about. All of my friends wanted to cruise down to Cali next weekend but tickets SOLD OUT so fast that we are not going to go. We’ll still be watching it. I’m excited. Definitely not a bust.

OP, I think in RUL’s most recent video, GreenSkull says that he barely got a ticket because they were sold out very fast (he says first few minutes). So I don’t think it’s gonna fail.
