Who else here thinks it would be a good idea for 343 to add a warzone team event to the hwc?
the REQs would have to be standardized for each game. So every person would have 5 of every item so they could pull whatever they want. Or just a limited number of each. The games would be crazy and too difficult to watch/commentate on though
Personally I don’t think that would be a good idea. My reasoning is that Warzone inherently negates player skill due to the fact that anyone who buys Req packs can just spawn with whatever weapon the please. It would be unbalanced since some players will just keep spawning with the most over power weapons (looking at you Nornfang) which leads to little diversity. Competitive halo is all about gunskill and power-positions, both of which get ruled out by a large margin in Warzone. Remember this is my opinion, but as someone who isn’t very fond of the pay to win and RNG loot mechanic that Warzone enforces, I wouldn’t want those practices being paraded at a tournament like HWC and have them compromise classical fair start arena matches.
i just think it wouldn’t work out. and most people probably find Arena more fun to watch than WZ.

The only time people really spam “OP Weapons” is in Warzone Turbo. Even those players have to build their REQ points back up during normal Warzone and Assault. I do not see warzone as a PTW gametype because you do not instantly get access to those items and very few have the ability to turn an entire game without coordination. Not trying to persuade you to like warzone, just pointing out that it’s not a PTW Gametype.

I see where you are coming from but I disagree (I don’t want to morph this thread into a “What do you think of the REQ System” thread). The reason I say that is because you are provided with the option of spending real money to increase the probability (non conditional probability that is) of getting a better weapon, where as classic arena is “Here is a set of known weapons at known locations, let players of with equal starts fight over them and let the winning spartan take the weapon”. But again I respect your opinion. If you like Warzone all the power to you
Honestly couldn’t see this working in any capacity, you wouldn’t be able to effectively balance it and casting would be an absolute nightmare. HWC works best with FFA and 4v4 setups we have now
I personally don’t think it would hurt to try it and see what people think. I always thought of a way to reduce “spamming” Reqs in a mode like that, is only allow a player to call in a certain req once.
For example, just make it so if you call in a whiplash, then you cannot again in the match. Idk if that would even work, but you never know unless you try it. I would watch it for sure though. If it doesn’t work out and people hate it, then so be it.
Seeing two full companies duke it out might have some great matches. Better then watching a 12 man team steam roll 12 randoms. To each their own I guess.
Sounds interesting on paper, but I got a feeling that the matches would be long and boring compared to normal Warzone (let alone Warlords).
HWC Wasps and Whiplashes?
I’d tune in.
No, get outta here with Warzone. Warzone is an unbalanced mess. What Halo esports really needs is BTB. I know it sounds crazy at first, but BTB actually has equal starts and there isn’t AI on the map so I don’t see why it couldn’t potentially work in a competitive environment.
And I’m sure it would increase viewership too. There are lots of people who don’t care about current Halo esports because it feels like almost nothing but 4v4 Magnum fights, which is incredibly boring if you ask me. BTB was always a popular playlist and vehicles are a big part of Halo, so they really shouldn’t be excluded from the esports scene. But definitely not Warzone
How can anyone say they are the champion of halo 5 if you do not have the ability to use everything that halo 5 offers. It may be difficult to set up but would be worth it in the long run.
BTB would have more credibility than WZ and it’s already been proven that it can work since there’s been BTB tournaments in the past.

Halo is a lot of things to a lot of people. It bothers me when people use the word “Halo” to describe 4v4 Magnums, or any other narrow subset of what Halo really is. This is what you need to keep in mind. The current Halo World Championship is really more of a 4v4 Magnums championship, and whoever wins probably isn’t going to claim to be the best at campaign, or infection, or firefight.
Instead, Halo esports should find a balance between a narrow focus, and opening up to every part of Halo. The best thing would be somewhere in between those two extremes. While it would be nice to see it open up a bit, this kind of high-level competition is more suitable for game modes that are competitively balanced. Game modes that have a high degree of randomness, such as Super Fiesta and anything with AI on the map, aren’t ideal for it.
I’m all for opening it up a bit and adding some vehicle play to Halo esports, but I don’t think Warzone is the best way to do that. Either way, the teams are going to have to focus on what part of Halo they do best at, because these aren’t competitions to decide who is best at every part of Halo, despite the fact that we call it “Halo” esports.
