HW2 Xbox one Army Andy bug list!

Hi everyone.

I have found a number of problems in game which I want to report back to devs. I will try to give a ‘steps to recreate’ if at all possible, and a proposed fix, but, normally in games it’s hard to recreate a scenario so it may not always be possible to give that level of detail.

Platform : Xbox One
Bugs
Single Player:

  • Mission 3 at the start I get messages that I have failed each and every optional objective, but the game has only just begun. The loop of failure notices repeats some of the objectives.

  • Steps to* recreate: Start mission 3. Turn off xbox, turn on xbox and within a couple of seconds the loop begins. I think this is what happened - it was a couple of days ago and I have not had time to repeat it.

  • Proposed fix:* don’t assess objective completion on game load – or don’t show objective failures when the mission hasn’t finished yet. - Mission 6 (Lights out) I seem to be unable to find a way to cross the second gap to reach the next objective. I move all my troops over after building my base, yet can find no way to cross the raveen. Am I just missing something here - please see the point I am talking about :https://s17.postimg.org/6qknsfvpb/IMG_0525.jpg

  • Update:* MorseyBaby (replied below) said did I try pressing the console which is near the bridge to activate the bridge. I did actually do this despite not mentioning it, I pressed on it to activate, but the bridge never activates. I tried with multiple different unit types including the 2 heros. Multiplayer:

  • When infantry are capturing a energy beacon on the map (not sure of their official names!) a small ‘spinning icon’ appears, but their health bar is removed.

  • Steps to recreate:*

  • 1/* Turn on ‘always on’ health bars.

  • 2/* Move infantry onto capture point (I move 3 units normally) - note that one of them will have the capturing icon, and health bar removed.

  • Proposed fix:* Show health bars during capture of beacon, perhaps just float the spinner icon somewhere close to the unit, or change the unit’s selected colour etc. - During longer games on winning the game itself crashes. This has happened on a 27 minute match and a 38 minute match. It crashed both times as I destroyed the last base of the enemy. The game does not show Victory, and the victory is not recorded in the stats (it’s as if the game was never played). The game slows to about 1 frame update every minute, and if the controller was rumbling at the time of the crash, it will continue to rumble. If you wait about 5 minutes, it will eventually present a Network error display - and the ui continues as normal. Could this potentially be the opponent closing the game, shutting of their Xbox etc? My network is stable, and it was not my disconnect.

  • Steps to recreate:* Play a longer multiplayer game (I had around 4 bases, 120 unit population tier 3 units, lots and lots going on at the same time) destroy the last base of an opponent and note the game slows to a halt eventually displaying a network error.

  • Proposed fix:* If this is a game crash, then please fix the cause of the crash. If this is due to an opponent disconnect, then the game should count that as a victory for the player still in the game and a loss for the opponent who left, also it should not crash the victor’s game.
I was browsing around through this website and found the Game History view – https://www.halowaypoint.com/en-us/games/halo-wars-2/matches/9f6919fa-dfc0-4e44-8905-6fd0556990ad/players/army%20andy?gameHistoryMatchIndex=5&gameHistoryGameModeFilter=All – that is a link to the game which I describe here. It looks like somehow I was put down as the looser - despite being victorious when the crash happened.General feedback

  • Pathfinding can be a bit funny. For example I want to move a specific unit to a specific location on the map near some other units. The unit can dance around, move a little somewhere near my selected location but never actually arrive to exactly where I am wanting it. This is likely to be because of hit boxes , but to the gamer, they can’t see the boxes, and the desired location should fit the unit, so it is deceiving and becomes a fiddle which is a pain - needs some work. - The MOTD has not yet changed since I purchased the game, but it continues to invite me to download the free pack – which I have done. The game recognises I have done this if i follow the download path. Also the button saying DLC is available continues to flash, despite the fact that I have the DLC installed. I also have no real idea on what the DLC actually does! - General lack of statistical data. It would be nice to see some more data on my multiplayer matches. For example a form of ‘APM’ whatever that would be for Xbox one pads. Also the ability to see at the end of the game an income against units graph (similar to what Starcraft 2 shows). It may also be nice to be able to watch replays of previous matches. This may be a cursed blessing as I quite like the fact that currently, no other player can watch what I am doing to bring myself closer to victory and then copy my strategies  - Unit information - Is there a source of information on specific units. The game often shows messages about counter units etc, but other that trial and error and just amounting experience it’s hard to know exactly what counter’s what most effectively (I know the triangle → Infantry beats Air, Air beats Ground and Ground beats Infantry? In fact is that even right!?). If there was maybe a ‘unit book’ in the game menus where you could read a bit about each unit, and commander ability, and what it is best and worst at, it would be great. - Could we have a way to cycle through each base quickly (there may be a way I just am yet to find it?) Maybe double tapping down (I think that’s the shortcut?) and then repeating that would cycle to each base.< THERE IS A WAY – PRESS LEFT ON D-PAD TO CYCLE BETWEEN ALL BASES >

  • Could we have a way to set a chain of waypoints when selecting a units next location, perhaps something like x whilst holding left trigger? This would set a path of waypoints a unit should travel along? - **Well done! You have built an exceptional console strategy game! By far and away the best I have ever played – well well well done! I am already a massive fan and will be here for the long run, am excited to see the game mature :)**That’s it for now - I will continue to play, and report back my findings. I hope this is helpful. It would be useful for me to know if 343 or Creative Assembly are reading and watching this thread so I know whether or not it is worthwhile reporting my findings in this form.

For point Campaign 2: there’s a console just next to the near-side of the bridge: move an unit near it and press a on it to activate the bridge.

For General point 4: your blitz card library (available both in game and on waypoint) has a huge amount of information about units available and each shows if an unit is good vs the other types (remember too that some counter units are also vulnerable to what they’re countering - e.g. Wolverine as although it is excellent vs air, air is also good vs vehicles).

For point General 3: I agree more could be made of post-game stats (especially on waypoint), but you can get the raw numbers for that on the post-game screen for MP games.

For point General 2 the free Forge DLC allows you to use Forge as an MP leader. The MOTD hasn’t changed for anyone yet, but that’s fairly standard for new Halo games while the team work in bug-fixing. It will announce new patches/balancing etc. when that happens. Would be nice to get some more stuff though.

Glad you’re enjoying the game and if you’re ever looking for a game online there’s plenty of people looking.

Look forward to seeing you in the fight.

Hi MorseyBaby - thank you for your help!

Campaign 2 – I did notice that, but the bridge did not activate when I pressed the console. I even tried with various different units including the 2 hero units. I will alter the bug line above to include this detail.

General point 4 – Brilliant! I have only done an AI blitz tutorial game, then one of the neverending blitz matches against AI (I last about 17 minutes). I’ll check this out - sounds exactly like what I was looking for.

General point 3 – Yeah I see the stats, and enjoy looking at the star placements

General point 2 – Yeah I know this isn’t a bug or anything, but it should recognise - along with the other portion on the far right of the main menu, the fact that I do actually have the DLC downloaded.

No worries at all - and apologies for going a little bit back to basics on some of those.

Wierd the bridge wasn’t working… I had to clear out all the banished (maybe try blowing up all their buildings too?) and then have an unit on top of it for it to work, but it was working for me.

If you’re ever looking for a team for more Firefight or Blitz/MP vs players: feel free to add me.

Latest patch bugs - 07/03/2017:

  • When you upgrade supply pads or generators to advanced depots or generators - the text on the UI above the building in your base does not reflect the change. I.e the text stays as “supply pad” as opposed to “heavy supply pad” which it was before. This is a bad change? Regression perhaps? Suggestion is - when you upgrade to heavy resource building - make the text reflect the change. Now at a glance I have no way of knowing if my resource slots are heavy or normal without pressing on them and looking at the action wheel.
