Lately it’s getting hard finding a game on the PC version of HW2. I was asking myself what we could do to change this. So I came up with this suggestion and wanted to read the opinion of the community here.
A solution I often read about is to take the GoW4 route and let PC and console players share social play-modes. The concern for unbalanced games due to the input mechanics however is quite huge, so I don’t think CA/343i/MS will let this happen. Even though I personally don’t think the disadvantage would be that big seeing the more action oriented nature of HW2. Still, I don’t think this is going to happen sadly…
Another much more obvious solution would be putting the game on Steam as well, there are however a lot of technical and legal issues behind such a change. Seeing how MS is aiming for total world domination… I mean, building there own market on PC, this move seems quite unlikely as well.
The next point people here always bring up is how limited the population on HW2 is due the fact it’s Win10 store users only. And truth be told I’m sure most gamers are still on older versions of Windows for various reasons. So opening up the store to Win7&8.1 would for sure be a welcome step in the right direction! I don’t think however that it would help much the situation in the months to come. There are already many Win10 users, yet the population is getting slimmer on a daily bases. Reducing this limit would help the cause of course, but it wouldn’t resolve the problem on the long run - not to mention MS would never allow it in first place.
Honestly seeing this “dire” situation (to put it lightly, the game is basically dead and barely a month old during the time writing this poll) dropping matchmaking seems to be the only real solution. With a classic server browser we could see how many people are playing a game, we could put our-self in a waiting list, we could see how long the match is going, we could choose the map and game-mode and so on.
A browser list is easy to use, you don’t lose time if there are no players available and you can actually play even when there aren’t many gamers around. Sure, this is not going to solve the population problem, however the fans on PC can at least play and don’t have the rely on a matchmaking with no info about player amount whatsoever.
I also want to underline the word LIST though. Yes, list. Not a horizontal array of images with tiny to no info about the players, a freaking list. If you do it my beloved devs from Creative Assembly and 343i please don’t layout it like you did in Halo 5 Forge. It’s a great addition, I love the fact that there is a browser now, imho it saved the game as well! But damn me if it’s uncomfortable to use!^^’ Just a tip!
So! What do you think fellow PC and cross-platform players? Would like to see this feature to be introduced? What would be the downside of a server browser? Is this going to solve anything at all? …is 343i even going to read to see anything posted on this forum?!^^’
