The direct approach 343 has taken is strongly for the casual PC players who have never experienced halo wars.
No where is a leaderboard or matchmaking system in place to make sure I don’t beat up bad horrible kids all day I have 10k games in 2v2 the average player can’t hang.
We need a system or people will just dodge me and I’ll have wasted my money playing only vs noobs.
Even if the game needed a new ranking system 343 could add the halo 5 system. After ten games get a division and work your way to champion. The champion icon goes where the previous EXP icon was. The current hw2 system aswell.
This game needs a ranking system theirs a lot of good players who want to enjoy this game on Xbox one vs each other as well as doing gamebattles with a fresh community.
This is the worst idea possible for the best RTS on console of all time.
I believe the only good thing currently is that PC players can access the game.
This was a really big reason we paid for the pre order to relive the greatest RTS on console once again while still grinding the crap outa hw2.
1-10 current game state… Don’t buy or play just for campaign…This never was a great gameplay campaign but the multiplayer was amazing people played 300-400 games a month or more.
343 biggest fail ever, please add a simple rank match making system into play.

Also more to add is the fact the game is balanced but not entirely so with the current system everyone counter combos you because you can change non stop it’s complete ludicrous. With random maps and ranks we can safely run all the combos and have way more fun
Also their was very very little media or any sources really to find out about Halowars de we just knew halo wars was coming out again… I feel like this was intentionally done to have less angry customers.
I already cancelled pre order and uninstalled this is not halo wars its custom games with people you don’t know.
And there is no incentive to win in this game, the game is only good for people who do not understand rts games (like 343 as we can see) and trolls.
Just saddened by all of this I hope HW2 will have something going for it but after this shocking betrayal I am voting with my wallet and waiting for a few days after official release.

Ignorant post. If anything, the original on-line portion is what should of been in the game with to begin with. They actually took the time to take it out and re-work it on what we have now. I seriously doubt this is like this because the game is not done. While we are hopeful that Rankings/Matchmaking and Leaderboards are added, it is unlikely because the game was a straight port and the one thing they spent time REMOVING was the on-line function. Face palms This isn’t a “straight port”. Firstly, they’re adjusting the game to have better graphics and frame rate. Secondly, porting a console game to PC is hard, so of course they’re gonna remove stuff temporarily. And why are you so butthurt over no Ranking. You still got multiplayer do you not?

Uhm porting a 360 game to PC isnt that hard. And no they wont add the other stuff people want.
I dont get the obsession for leaderboards anyway. Who cares about kids with no life? You want competitive matchmaking? Wait for Halo Wars 2.
Its good that Halo Wars 1 DE isnt focused on all the competitive tryhard -Yoink-.

Same gameplay as before, only difference is a lack of proper matchmaking and suddenly the game isn’t competitive at all, as if you can slap a matchmaking system on any game and suddenly it’s competitive, regardless of gameplay.
I was sorely disappointed in the lack of proper matchmaking, really looked forward to it. I’ll however wait and see what happens.

For the love of God, people need to read the FAQ before commenting out defending 343 on this. In the FAQ it clearly stated browser mode replaced matchmaking.

Did you read the FAQ? Because it doesn’t say that it replaced it at all. It says it’s new, that’s it. It goes on to say that in the following months leading up to the official release that there will be several improvements and additions made to the multiplayer experience.

Wrong. Not the statement, but the fact that you’re trying to apply it to Halo Wars. As I’ve said before, Halo Wars is a game that was designed, molded, packaged, and sold for casuals. Halo (the FPS series) might be more focused on the competitive aspect of gaming, but Halo Wars could only ever really be considered competitive back in 2009 and 2010. I have gripes with the DE as well, but this is not one of them. Competitive games are possible. There are other good players that pre-ordered HW 2 Ultimate edition. If they dodge, just call them out on it. It’s either they play you or they cower. A choice between dignity and shame. The choice seems obvious to me.

HW had competitive elements that sustained the games life. there are no competitive elements in the “Definitive” Edition

The community is what kept Halo Wars alive. Not how competitive it was. Jump on UA 3s even now and see how many casuals still play. The competitive side was also kept alive by the community. Not the sole fact that it was competitive. Look at the Halo Wars reddit. It is exactly what Halo Wars legion was. And Halo Wars legion did exactly what Lazyfrog did. Do you see the trend? The community kept the game alive. The fact that it said HALO on the package kept it alive. Then, as it neared it’s death, the announcement of Halo Wars 2 defibrillated it. Halo Wars is not Starcraft. Wishing and pretending it is won’t change that. This game (from the very beginning) was crafted with casuals in mind.
Whilst I agree thr community kept it alive, matchmaking really helped that feeling 2 good teams are searching know idea what map and what combo you will get.
That was taken away sadly.

I think part of your problem is that you’re a team game player (from what I’ve gathered). 1s is still competitive. I played multiple GGs with a random (who was actually quite good) and the infamous YoungBerk. So to say Halo Wars DE isn’t competitive is just false. Even if you added the caveat of “2s and 3s aren’t competitive”, that’s still heavily debatable.
