Hunters are almost unbeatable on Legendary

Legendary Anti-Hunter Tip: The Ravager and Skewer wreck Hunters. Also, Thruster is your best friend vs. Hunters.

Anywhere on the hunter that is orange is a weak spot where you can deal damage. A lot of comments here are focusing only on the large orange spot on its back. There are multiple weak points - check the knees and the neck. You can easily deal damage from a distance with a precision weapon.

Personally I have had no issues dealing with them on legendary. Maybe you aren’t approaching the situation correctly. If the AI is beating you try a different strategy. The fun of legendary is getting into these challenges and try to overcome them. I really enjoy the new hunter mechanics

The hunter HVT was really easy…
Give marines power weapons (rockets, sniper, skewer). Give those to 5 marines.

Get a razor back.

Fill razor back with marines.

Absolutely annihilate those hunter bros. (in matter of seconds, at range).

The room has an internal wall / window at one end (near the crates / shotgun). Position yourself so you are on one edge and the Hunter is at the other. You can create a bit of a stalemate where you stop him charging by switching from one side to the other (he ambles slowly around the corners). Once you get him under control you can quickly duck in closer and knee cap him with the shot gun as he comes into view before popping back around to the other side.

Naaaaahhhhh the hunters in this game are the BEST hunters every. An actual challenge now.

Found the Ravager actually works well on them, just finished my legendary run yesterday, but you might need to reload it from a crate to kill both.

That being said however it doesn’t make them very fun to fight. I miss going fisticuffs with the hunters. Just a nostalgia lense. If I never knew I could I never would have been disappointed.

I gotta agree. I didn’t even die to most of the bosses on Legendary but then these Hunters come along and slap me around.

I don’t even know how to fight them other than to cheese the hell out of the fight. You can’t bait their melee because it’s too damn strong, too damn fast, and isn’t consistent in the range at which it triggers so consistently avoiding a melee attack them is basically impossible.

Because you can’t avoid a melee attack, you can get behind them to target their weakspot. Sure it looks like they have that little weakpoint on their knees but I have no damn idea if it’s actually a weakpoint because it doesn’t stun them or anything, it just bleeds but the amount of bullets to put into that point to kill them is insane.

Nades don’t seem to do much with exception to the shock nades but even then, they can get hit with every nade in your inventory and survive.

I don’t understand why they are like this or how to fight them, even after beating the game on legendary

This is frustrating the hell out of me. I’ve been jumping in and out the campaign since it released (on legendary) and finally got to some hunters in a room on the final level. And f&#$. I’m just stuck here.

except on legendary they don’t.

(obviously sarcasm but on legy, Hunters just MG shred u in a tank if you’re not 2km away)

I don’t find Hunters particularly terrible. They’re tough, and its really difficult to get a shot at their backs, but there are ways to work around them. As some have pointed out, they do have vulnerable points in the front that you can shoot at such as their knees, but for me I found a surprising weapon to use against them was the Ravager.

Thanks to being slow, lumbering beasts, I can fire a charged shot right at their feet and have them cooking in the AoE. The only reason I found that out was late in the campaign when I had to fight a Hunter pair and - out of ammo for heavy weapons - I decided to just go ahead and use the Ravager. Sure enough, I was able to finish them off by cooking the wormies in some red-fire soup.

i am doing then now on my own on legendary and in the first place it was hard and there kill me always easy.

but there is a guide that has make then super easy to kill only with 7 shots of the skewer.
and there is also a hidding spot where you can hide and fire the 7 shots of the skewer on the hunters.

I hopped onto Halo 4 just to abuse the invisible tank gun you can pick up once you reach the surface, I had no intention of playing it sensibly but it was fun and Hunters were a piece of cake. Now I’m running through Legendary again but with all skulls on and I am having to play legit because the tank gun actually makes the game harder due to how the Cowbell skull affects physics and can ruin FOB captures and general story progression with how the game checks if an enemy is dead or not. Even using an rpg is risky but I try to blast enemies into a wall so they die XD

Speaking of a LASO run, the Hunters you face when doing it can go spoon a lathe… ESPECIALLY the 2 you get locked in a small room with in the Nexus level.
If you don’t finish the second one with a melee to get health back then the game won’t give you a checkpoint, so unless you get lucky and it gives you a mercy checkpoint, you’ll always snap back to that fight as there’s next to no way to sensibly take out a sentinel with melee on the gondola OR in the room after that which needs 3 seed key doodads.

As alot of people have said, they don’t behave like Hunters from past halo games, and are so dang tanky, if I can’t avoid them in the overworld I try to blast them into the abyss because they eat up so much of your time.
One thing I found in my current run is that it’s better to shoot the floor near them than hit directly. They can’t shoot whilst in mid-air and they have a couple second landing animation that leaves them vulnerable to back attacks if you knock them high enough.

The game always gives you power weapons like Rockets and Skewers and even explosives like fusion coils whenever you fight them. pretty sure 3 skewer shots to the head and a fusion coil hit kills them on legendary. The only pair I had any issue with was the red hunters in the tiny room, but even then it was only like 3 or 4 tries. I just used everything on one hunter and used grapple and wall to avoid the other rampaging one while I reloaded skewer and grabbed another fusion coil.

this right here is what I did. Needler and grappling/boosting around is what I did on my legendary playthrough

Tank beats EVERYTHING!

As for the topic. I like that the hunters are difficult on legendary. They are supposed to be scary and tough. Halo CE, 2 and 3 hunters were a joke.

I actually love the Boss fights it rewards strategy an skill instead of mindlessly just running an gunning everything. I am going to say I’ve ran into 2 hunter officers an they have dropped me alot. I’ve got to destroy one of the AA guns there guarding. It’s on legendary with Thunder Skull on its definitely a nice tactical jump up from Heroic. I played a little without Thunder on legendary an it felt about as difficult as Heroic. I guess I should try attacking from a different area.

Just want to let y’all know. I was on heroic and facing one of those hammer chieftans in white armor. Lucky for me, I had a hammer and two shot him.

Might wanna try it out.

and now try that the same on legendary and you get killed by then easy by the same hammer from the chieftans.

on the last mission is the chieftans on legendary always the pain problem and something you need to save for the last since its a pain one on legendary.

Well granted you might have to change up the play style but I’m sure it’s possible.
