Hunters and Asassinations

I just got done watching Halo 4 Forward Unto Dawn (again). There is one scene in particular that I wish we could replicate in Halo 4. The scene where Chief fights the second Hunter.

I feel like 343 could have included his “assassination” of the Hunter in Halo 4. It honestly felt like a huge tease that they showed something like that in the series, but failed to have in the game. It definitely would show the skill and agility of a Spartan to jump on the shield of a Hunter, onto its back, and then shoving a grenade into the Lekgolo.

I hope that they may include something like it Halo 5, provided we fight the Covenant in Halo 5 of course. Would anyone else want to see a Hunter specific assassination?

I have been wondering about this for some time now. Of course though if this did happen, then hunters wouldn’t be as challenging as they are now. maybe a 1 in 5 chance you can assassinate one.

I don’t want one particularly because hunters have always been known as one of the hardest foes to kill. It would make everything way too easy…

No. Hell no.

Hunters move slow, and turn very slow.

If I could assassinate hunters they wouldn’t even pose a threat on Mythic difficulty.

I think they should do it so you can only assassinate a Hunter once you have taken off the armor on its back, also make the armor on its back alot harder to take off.

Perhaps they could make it a little more complex to assassinate one, like first you had to destroy the armor plate on their backs, and then to finish them off, you had to stuff a grenade into them, kinda like what you do with tanks.

Doesn’t take much skill to run up to a vehicle, hold X to board, then press left trigger to plant a grenade on it. Your idea is to replace that with the traditional way of fighting Hunters which involves agility, firepower and timing.

I much prefer the traditional way, as cool as it the animations might sound.

I’m sure they would make it harder than running up and holding B like most enemies. Plus, they really should make Hunters faster. In the games they are incredibly slow, yet in the books and the extended universe stuff, their movements are much faster.

I just asked if people wanted assassinations. all of the leg work on how that would be performed and what effort would go into achieving such a feat was not in my original thought process.

They could make it in Halo 5 so Hunters are faster, stronger, etc. They’re armor could become more complicated to remove or something along those lines. 343 could even make it so that you have to do a set amount of damage to a Hunter before you can even bother trying to assassinate it.

If 343 added it and simply made it, run up and hold B like other assassinations, I wouldn’t want it in the game either.

What they should do is make it to where you have to break the armor on the hunters backs off and you must also have a grenade on you to assassinate them. And it should be harder to destroy the armor on their backs, making it more of a challenge for a greater reward.

Op has the right idea. Hunters definitely need a speed boost.

In Combat Evolved, they could close the distance very quickly and keep up with you. Not to mention they were constantly in pursuit.

Yeah. Hunters sit still way too much in Halo 4 and now that Sprint is a basic feature, you can easily out maneuver them.

Taking down 4 Hunters on Legendary has never been easier.

So like I said, if they were to add an assassination for hunters, they would need to make them faster and stronger to compensate. Though they should already be faster and stronger due to power weapons and sprinting.

They might as well. They’ve got assassinations for every other enemy!

Another issue is their melee pattern. It’s predictable, it’s outdated.

It’s always been about increasing their melee damage and/or melee radius. It wasn’t until Reach where they finally gave Hunters an alternate melee.

Look at the Knights, those guys keep players on their toe with their 360 sweeps and fancy abilities (zig zag, jump). I find them more intimidating than Hunters.

I agree, it would be very neat if they did that.Perhaps even go into a mini cutscene when you do it, would be cool.It also sure as hell beats emptying clip after clip into them, so annoying.

Good idea. Make it so you can assassinate them when their health is low enough that a melee would kill them.

They had it, and it was removed from Reach. You can find videos of it in early builds, or re-enabled by modders (acts as a vehicle board, you can rip out lekgolo viciously until it dies, or you can plant a grenade), and that’s as close as you will get for now.

You know Bungie originally made it possible in a alpha test of assassinating Hunters on Halo 3. It was in one of their Halo panels in 2010 I believe.
