Hunter Weakness

Hello there. I was playing ODST with the Skull for increased Strength and Weaknesses on. When I caught a Hunter from the back with an SMG on few meters range, it took surprisingly few bullets to finish that Hunter.

Is the Hunter in ODST especially weak towards SMG in particular, or are projectile-based weapons similarly effective?

you shot them in the weak part and because of the skull they were more weak towards damage in that area

Is there a comparison what is most effective on a Hunter’s back? Like Assault Rifle vs. Shotgun vs. SMG vs. Pistol?

I mean it probably just depends on the range and damage of the weapon, and I think generally ballistics damage the flesh more than energy weapons.

Tilt makes it much easier as you said, it increases strengths and weaknesses. Shotguns in the Hunters back are a good tactic with tilt on.

The neck and back has always been weak points for hunters. Except for the minor change in Infinite where they moved it to the neck only (I think).

I will try this one in particular. In Halo Reach ONI Sword Base (Mission 3), there was a shotgun shelf right before the Hunters, so I assume it’s a hint that shotguns are most effective.

But with a shotgun, it would be necessary to hit the back — especially on Legendary, right? It wouldn’t be too effective on the neck. Necks would be best with a sniper rifle, if at all.

Hunters are very predictable with their melee attacks in Reach so Shotguns are mostly here to speed up the killing, you can easily slap them to death if you can dance (you have to with Shotgun anyway) .

And if you can successfully avoid melee attacks, you can use whatever you want.

Hunters where never that hard to defeat, they don’t have that much hit points.

For example they still get owned hard by a Spartan Laser in Halo 3 even on LASO while shielded floods don’t and probably high rank Brutes too, Combat Evolved, Halo 2, 3 or ODST… nah but they got better in Reach that’s sure.

Just don’t try neck shots, surely you can avoid that in any Halo.
