Hunter ranks

Anyone else think it’d be cool to fight Hunters with different ranks? I’ve wanted to see something like that ever since I saw the golden Hunters in ODST. Even if they’re not the most intelligent race in the Covenant, things like upgraded weapons and heavier armor would work at upping the threat they already pose. We’ve already seen Hunter bosses with different tiers in H5’s Warzone, but I’d love that sort of variation in the campaign.

Potentially! I’m very open to the idea of 343i introducing perhaps one or two variations on the Hunter class to begin with. This is the sort of change that isn’t likely to create problems in the meta for the game, but which will still make Infinite distinct and challenging in new ways. Exactly the sort of experimentation 343i should be using in this game.

Something like ODST did with the Red Hunter would be cool,

ODST only had Gold and Blue, no red. Gold fired single rods, Blue fired streams.

That said, I do hope we see red and white Hunters (Like in Firefight, but less insanely durable) in Halo Infinite. More Covenant variety is always nice-and it’d be nice to only have one type of needler-firing hunter instead of literally all of them.

Hunter variations and a redesign could be very refreshing. I don’t like the shield design in guardians. Also I hate the tracking burst. I miss the beams and the rods. Maybe add all 3 in and having them specialize in things. The tracking is better against infantry. The beams for AA. Then the rods for vehicles. Just a thought because the tracking rounds seem a little small and effective against infantry

It’s definitely possible to give the hunters a rank for Halo Infinite, and I would say the best possible way to do so would be to look at the ranks they were given by the Banished in HW2. In that game, we see different versions of hunters like one covered in armor, solely focused on melee attacks, a hunter captain, and even goliaths (if you consider those to be hunters), and I think some of those designs would definitely translate well into the FPS style of games. I’m not sure if its really likely to occur in Infinite, but if you take into account what 343 has done with hunters in the past, it is definitely plausible.

I would love for the Hunters to receive different ranks and variations. Personally, one I think would be cool is a smaller and lighter Jetpack hunter that utilizes a smaller version of the automatic cannon in Halo 5. It would also be cool to see a hunter that splits into two, more agile soldiers when it becomes heavily damaged. Due to the nature of Hunters, the possibilities for variations and ranks are nearly endless.

Considering they are the only species to not have really more than two variants? I would welcome this willingly! Though I would prefer if the Hunters went back to slow and lumbering powerhouses. Their quick swipes and swings can make fighting them in close quarters quite frustrating.

I’m fine with there being different Hunter ranks. We had the gold ones in ODST and the Serpent Hunters etc. in Warzone. However, I don’t want the Hunter encounters to put a complete halt on mission progress as every Hunter fight in Halo 5 did. I think the problem with Halo 5’s Hunters was that they had too much health and were always encountered in really small areas. They also kept their ‘faces’ toward you constantly instead of allowing you a proper chance to get behind them when playing without a co-op partner. Halo CE’s Hunters are still my favourite to this day, even if you could kill them with one pistol shot. Halo CE’s Hunters appear in a variety of environments both inside and outside with plenty of cover and room to move around. Halo 5’s were overpowered and boring to fight. Introduce different Hunter varieties, sure, but please don’t make them as boring to fight as Halo 5’s were. They’re made from freaking worms, people! Not concrete.

Totally agree. They’ve always been the ‘tank’ species in the Covenant, but I prefer seeing them in battle rather than in lone encounters. I’ve always liked how Hunters join the fight during the last wave of enemies, sorta shows the player that they’re nearly finished with the section of a mission.
