Hunter Assasination

I’m sure that this has been discussed already, but in case it hasn’t… can players assassinate Hunters in Halo 4 the way that Master Chief assassinated the Hunter in the F.U.D. film?

I’ve tried and failed. I have found that a a volley of sticky bombs…a death…another volley of sticky bombs…and probably another death…and yet another volley takes down a Hunter on Legendary, but I would love to assassinate these walking fish food gladiators if at all possible.

Yeah, like everyone else has said, it’d defeat the point of hunters basically functioning as “boss” characters to players in normal circumstances if you could just pull a T2 and GIVE 'EM THE BACKSMACK, WOO! (sorry)

Unless it happened basically as part of a cutscene sequence as a QTE (which could potentially be awesome, but I’m kind of against QTEs in general) it’d be bad for gameplay. Remember the Halo CE hunters that you could sidestep melee dodge+pistol in the back 1sk everytime? There’s a really good reason they were never like that again, lol.

You can’t assassinate Hunters, but you can easily kill them with a melee to the back if their armor has been knocked off. I’ve thought about how this could be expanded a bit.

1: If the Hunter is close enough to death that a normal melee to its unarmored back would kill it, instead have that killing melee initiate an assassination sequence where the Spartan climbs up its back and stabs it to death in some epic way. This wouldn’t be a ‘true’ assassination, but it would add a cool assassination sequence for a rear melee kill.

2: After exposing a Hunter’s back by blowing off its armor, allow a ‘Tap X to [board?]’ prompt if you’re behind the Hunter and in melee range, similar to a vehicle. Upon tapping X, you’d then jump onto the Hunter’s back, (in third person), and could then tap RB to melee the Hunter in the back, just like when you hijack a tank, (or the Prophet of Regret’s chair in Halo 2). You’d get 2 or 3 melees before the Hunter shook you off, (assuming you didn’t kill it), flinging you away a bit and dealing some damage. If you had any grenades when jumping on the Hunter, you could, (instead of meleeing it), tap LT to plunge a grenade into its body, blowing it apart in another unique death animation, again, much like when you hijack a tank.

I think either of the above option would be cool, and neither would make the Hunters too easy, as both would require you damage the Hunter sufficiently first to blow off the armor guarding its back.

If this isn’t implemented into Halo 5, I will sell my first born child.

If you added the animation then I think the Hunter should have a counter Animation if you messed up the timing. Like it suddenly doing a barrel roll or smashing it’s back into a nearby wall or crushing you into the ground.

Sadly, you can’t (maybe because it’d be too easy to kill them then). If they ever added it in they should make it so that you have to shoot off all of the Hunter’s back armour first, then you can jump on his back and stick a grenade in his wormy bits.

It is not possible to assassinate hunters in any Halo so far too my knowledge.
Hunters would be too easy to kill via assassination IMO.

I wouldn’t mind having an animation for hunters, but only after they were close to death. As in they had their back shell and some spikes knocked off. Maybe something like jump on their head, grab a spike, swing on it gymnastic style to snap it off, and shove that spike into their orange back while looking the opposite way, like a samurai. I think that would be pretty damn awesome! Again, you shouldn’t be able to do it until they’re close to death anyway (but please NO in game prompts telling you to do it!!!).

Also, Halo CE hunters could be one shot killed with the magnum, and it felt really awesome taking them down like that. Halo CE hunters are actually one of my favorite enemies to fight in any Halo because of that glitch/ feature. It was awesome!!

It might be cool if you could only assassinate them after you’ve shot all the spikes of their backs. Or something like that, so you can’t one hit kill them.

I’m nothing short of pleased with these answers. I like the idea of implementing a grenade plunge style Hunter assassination. Make it difficult and offer the gamers an achievement for it.

Also…I’d like to see a Firefight game revisited like in Halo Readh, but with unlimited ammunition; unlimited loading choices with unlimited weapons choices; and instead of a gruntapkcolypse…make’em hunters.

And in THAT chaos…limit our respawns and offer us an achievement if we can assassinate a hunter!
