Is Hunt the Truth considered canon? I’m just trying to reconcile the ad campaign which melds well with Hunt the Truth and the story in Halo 5. What seems to take place over a matter of days at most in Halo 5, takes weeks if not longer in Hunt the Truth. The whole misinformation campaign waged by ONI is a bit odd given that time frame.
I do apologize if this has been asked before. Also, I recognize that the ads aren’t canon and are probably working from an early draft of Halo 5’s story.
Yes, Hunt the Truth is canon and the ads are canon ish. The one where they show Locke and Master Chief at the base of the statue, No. But the announcement of chief dying and you see him running through the city and getting buried, And the unofficial story of the same event and Blue team digging him out and Locke is told to hunt him down is Canon
not sure about the whole thing I vaguely remember (correct me if I am wrong) that osman wanted every one to know about the spartan program so why cover it up?
Eventually. They still have to deal with The Covenant, rebels coming out of the wood works, now Guardians destroying planets. They need some stability and quiet and a little more time to get their eggs in a basket before releasing that bomb shell. It makes no sense to add fuel to a fire when they have fires all over the place right now.

Yeah, but what about the Halo 5 Announcement trailer with Chief in the cloak confronting a Guardian? Part of me likes to think that will resurface in Halo 6.

I think it is canon, but some parts wouldn’t make sense unless ONI edited the video. Like Chief getting crushed by the building and being saved by Linda on Meridian. We visited Meridian and it played out way differently.

Pretty sure the trailer elements aren’t really meant to considered part of HTT’s narrative.
Like Chief vs Locke trailers came out back when HTT was still in its infancy, and months before Locke was even sent after chief.

Actually parts of the trailer are meant to be Canon and part of the narrative. If you remember the first trailer where the UNSC spokeswoman telling if Master Chief song was how everyone found out and why the rebels were partying because if that announcement that was sent out to the colonies. Then on the Hunt the Truth website Sully wrote to Osman apologizing to her for the mess up about the spokesperson getting the wrong date and that she was “demoted” and taken care of.
So those two trailers are Canon and can be construed as what UNSC thinks what happen on Meridian but Canon non the fact
