Humor in Halo 5

One of the things I loved about Halo 2 and 3 were all of the subtle touches with humor. The RvB Easter eggs, some of the dialogue for the grunts and marines, sergeant Johnson, et cetera. However, I feel as if the humor has been missing as of lately. Yes, I know it’s about war and character drama with 343, but still. And yes, the “I regret everything!” from the grunt at E3 was funny, so I hope we get more of it.

I also hope they add depth to the characters in Halo 5 (i.e. Fire Team Osiris) by making them say witty remarks every once in a while.

Um. Halo 4 had a ton of easter eggs. Especially RvB easter eggs. 343i is taking the story just as seriously as Bungie did. Which is enough, but with plenty of subtle humor.

I think english covies will bring back humor

During one of the missions in Halo 4 SpOps, Palmer calls sniper Jackals “Friggin campers”.

Yeah, most of her ‘jokes’ come off as a sterner, colder Sgt. Johnson wannabe, but that quote made me chuckle.

One of my main reasons for wanting Halo 5 is because covies speak English again. There’s bound to be more comedy.

Can I say that Bungie’s AI dialogue was horrible and immersion breaking for the most part? I found it extremely hard to concentrate on getting invested in the story and saving the universe when Grunts were screaming about their “big blue balls” and Brutes were crying for their gay lovers. Some humour in the dialogue is fine, but not when it stops you from taking the drama seriously and makes everything seem cheesy.

I was hoping that the Covenant would only speak English in Halo 5 through the activation of a skull. But if they are going to bring back English speaking Covenant, I hope they’ll reserve all of the silly dialogue for IWHBYD skull.

You mean Halo 3’s AI dialogue was horrible and immersion breaking for the most part?

Halo CE, Halo 2, ODST… they struck me as knowing when to draw the line at ‘one joke too many’ without skulls on.

So people complain because spartans congratulate each other at the end of a War game Exercise. And yet we want more humor. When that in itself was pretty humorous.

I lost humanity. We’re is a nice cave for me to hide in for the rest of my life.

I hope that food nipple is waiting for me back on the starship because, whew, man… have I worked up a big Grunty THIRST!

No H5G for you then. That must suck.

I agree. I’m happy to see the Covenant return speaking english. They will definately have alot to say. IWHBYD anyone?

I think there will be humor, we got a glimpse of it when the grunt was running and yelling “I regret everything.” Since grunts speak english, I think we will see more humor and also buck can be a bit funny at times. Would like to see linda, fred or kelly drop a few one liners too. hahaha. Not too much though

“Is your refrigerator running?”

Halo 4 had plenty of funny easter eggs. I don’t think we’ll have to worry about Halo 5 on this.

It’ll be a taliban cave. It’ll have power and Internet

343 just have a different style of humor. I personally feel it’s a bit forced, but I think adding more personality to the enemies will help with that.

As annoying as it is, humanity isn’t really supposed to make sense.

OT: I agree. One thing that I really didn’t like about Halo 4’s campaign was how much they abandoned the humor in the previous games. You can’t just take away the Grunts’ humor! You can’t replace Sgt. Johnson who was pulling out hilarious lines every mission with that steaming pile of sh-Sarah Palmer! It’s a good thing we get English-speaking Covies and Buck, though.

OMG I completely forgot about that…

Have English covies been confirmed? I also loved the humor in Halo 3. It was easily the most funny co-op campaign of the series. Wasn’t much humor in H4 even though I truly enjoyed H4. I just miss all the funny moments from the English speaking enemies in the H3 co-op campaign. Hopefully the brutes are back too.
