Make the Grunts speak English again and say funny things. That’s all that really matters.
Only with IWHBYD, this game is supposed to be dark
Add the Tornado gun and the Space mop. We’ll get this game funny in no time!

Alright I meant could chief have clever lines on occasion, not making the game like Deadpool.

343i tried that by having Chief say one-liners in 4 like “asking isn’t my strong suit.”
It was cringe-worthy.

Darker than ODST I hope.
Well, we still need a little humor. English speaking grunts would be just fine.
@Omeggos I don’t think he was being humorous when he said that. Cortana may have been trying for hilarity. What other lines are meant to be funny in H4?
And don’t say ‘I thought you’d be taller’. That just made me blink.

Halo CE I remember the scene when John was juggling the grenade when she asked him how he’s going to blow up the vents I lol’d even though it was agrubly a dark/serious game.
Look at the Avengers, or Iron man 3 it can be done. Im not saying it should be done in Halo but I wouldn’t mind a something here and there. Not necessarily always from John but you get the point.

You’re acting like humor cannot happen in a serious story. Funny lines and moments can happen in a dark or serious story. Halo has pretty much always done that in some way when you think about it.
I love witty dialogue in Halo, but I never viewed Chief as the type that is trying to make people laugh.
Chief only ever joked around Cortana. Really they weren’t even jokes, just sarcastic comments.
I’d to see the RvB guys back… Vignette like halo 3 or some sort of Easter egg like Spartan ops.

I don’t think a serious story should have humour, it was one of the many reasons why Halo 3 was such a bad game to me, that’s why it should be an option
I would like to see Chips Dubbo show up again, maybe make stacker a important foil for the game.

Many people, even in real life, try to lighten a dark mood with jokes. As long as the jokes aren’t overly corny and frequent, I don’t see a problem.
This is supposed to be the darkest Halo game to be made, so maybe just a little tiny bit of humor.
Will Sarah Palmer have any lines? If so, there is your humor.

Dark Knight was one of the more serious, self-important action franchises in quite some time.
The Joker had plenty of one liners and situational humor that was genuinely funny, not just a lame attempt to convey the character’s persona. Morgan Freeman delivered some good one liners.
There was some humor with the cops’ radio chatter during the batmobile chase scene in the first movie. Alfred has one or two wry jokes. Heck, even Bane drops a couple lines.
That isn’t to say the TONE of the movie is humorous. The humor serves as tension relief. It makes the characters relatable. Most importantly, people find its fun. That’s why even serious movies make a conscious attempt to include some levity.
What does that mean in the context of Halo? Johnson has always been comic relief. Gallows humor or sorts. His one liners and what not are the sort of thing that you from many in stressful situations. By making light of the situation, trivializing it, you are making it less daunting and more manageable. Cortana has been a routine source of flippancy. Her jokes did nothing to lessen the severity of the situation. Chief even has his own brand of dry humor.
Its part of the series. It is good story telling. It is consistent with the characters. So yeah, be judicious with it. Its not a comedy.

I don’t find wanting to smash my head on my desk particularly funny
