Humbling Experience

So I haven’t played Halo 5: Guardians in about a year. I have recently been seeing a lot of Youtube videos saying Halo 5 has some of the most advance movement in the Halo series. I’d like to get back into the game but I’m afraid I’ve been having an extremely difficult time adjusting. I used to be very decent at the game but I’ve been losing quit a lot. What game modes you recommend? Quick Play is extremely difficult and I hold my team back. I tried Halo 2: BRs and it was difficult. I have no quips with the game other than Spartan Charge’s lock on but I would like to get some of my old skill back.

Only hardcore sweats and the odd casual players remain. You’re also playing against people who are likely above your skill range due to the games age as the population isn’t what it once was. Keep that in mind when you think that you might be bad, because odds are you’re not, they’re just far more experienced.

You’re right about the experience I saw someone do an amazing jump and thought it was amazing using the mechanics and I forgot how accessible the game was.

Also that’s probably one of the nicest things someone has said to me on the Halo 5 forums. Thank you Spartan.

I’d recommend going for Team Slayer. I know that suggesting ranked as a means to getting back into the grove might sound counter-intuitive but from my personal experience, Team Slayer tends to provide balanced matches most frequently. Mind you, you’ll still get into some nasty stomp matches, but it shouldn’t be as bad at is with Quick Play where it seems to be that every match pits casual randoms vs a elite fireteam getting ready for the next round of the Halo Championship Series.

Oh and this should go without saying, but stick with your teammates until you feel more confident with where you skill levels are. And as the above poster said, keep it cool. It’s not that you’re bad, it’s just the state of the Halo 5 community right now.

If you haven’t played for a year just don’t go into Ranked.

That’s the thing Casual play feels like Ranked. I remember Ranked in Halo 5 was extremely difficult. I wouldn’t be surprised if Ranked was the more balanced experienced at the moment.

Well what rank are you and what is your search preference on.

I’m on Focused and my rank is 145.

Ive been their before just dont play any rank, just play casual or go into story mode or even better play warzone fire until you think your good enough to bounce back into rank, I dont play much rank cause of my kids always needing something or messing with me so i tend to stick with casual or warzone most times during the day but at night i want to try rank but i dont want to get to a rank and then get de-rank for not playing everyday.

If you change your preference to balanced or expanded you will get less sweaty players. And if you get friends that are low ranks and you put it on balanced you will get some kills easily. I have like rank 30 and 20 friends and I’m almost 145 and when I play with them I can get about 15-20 kills no problem.

Not sure what you mean about “get de-rank for not playing everyday,” you don’t get penalized for not playing unless you’re ranked Champion in which case people can pass you in the top 200.

“Sweaty” in this case has to do with MMR, the game is trying to make games that are evenly matched so it’ll inherently feel sweatier.

SR little to do with skill — you could have someone 152 be worse than someone who’s SR30. But yes, if you play with lower-skilled teammates you’ll have more kills, but you’ll be expected to carry the team. As mentioned above team slayer has the biggest population so you’re more likely to get evenly matched games there.
