Humanity reverse engineering hardlight tech

The other recent thread about the Hardlight Shield brought this thought to mind, so I thought I’d make a separate thread about it instead of derailing the other one.

So, when the SPARTAN-IIs first engaged the Covenant, they were instructed to recover as much shield technology as possible. And within two decades or so of research, the MJOLNIR Mark V armor system is created to be worn by twenty five SPARTAN-IIs.

What we have now is the Infinity having a ridiculous amount of SPARTAN-IVs deployed to Requiem, with the IVs almost definitely being assigned to recover as much promethean tech as possible.

Before, with the limited tech the IIs could recover, they revolutionized MJOLNIR and may have given humanities chances a final push that they needed to win. With the IVs? They had an entire planet of much more sophisticated and durable technology.

So how long do you all think it’ll take until we see a SPARTAN-IV shrug off a Wraith mortar because their shields are made entirely out of hardlight?

I think that the UNSC goals for Forerunner recovered armor is far bigger than what you think. They are probably attempting to reserve engineer full Forerunner combat skins and general armor. The Librarian seems to be guiding humanity to be more like the Forerunners. You can easily see parallels with the Forerunner Ecumene and the things that the UNSC is advancing towards. Augmentations done especially to the Spartan IV are becoming increasing are analogous to the mutations that the Forerunners used , Mjolnir is now being given to much larger groups of people beginning to resemble the practices that Forerunners had regarding armor. For better or worse the Librarian’s tampering is leading humanity to a society that will resemble the Ecumene in almost every way.

Never. This would lead to terrible gameplay.

Gameplay wise, absolutely. But given how humanity seems to have this ridiculous ability to reverse engineer everything in incredibly short amounts of time in the Halo universe, I’d be willing to bet that humanity would achieve hardlight shielding by 2575.

By 2589, Humans are capable of bringing entire dead planets back to life. Case and point, Halo Reach epilogue.

Don’t know how canon that’s gonna be in the future, given the recent events with Halsey.

Although we hear her talking about Noble 6 in 2589, it could be that she said those words some time before then. Either way, I believe the Halo: Reach ending is canon because it was the last Halo game from Bungie and they probably worked in collaborations with 343i to make the game canon with the rest of the Reclaimer Saga. Not to mention there are Forerunner-like objects in the background of Noble 6’s helmet.
