I was wondering: “wouldn’t it be cool if there was a human version of the convent energy sword?” so one day if there would be one, what would it look like? and what would players think about it? i think it would be cool! just imagine being in a sword fight with an elite with a human version of the energy sword! i think it would work similar to the energy sword but with a couple a bit of tweaking. what do you guys think?
I’ve thought about this too. I’ve always imagined the katana being the human sword. It would function pretty much the same as the energy sword, mainly differing by sounds and animations. When the katana runs out of “ammo” the blade breaks off and you have to club people with the handle.
I’m doubtful that a katana would hold up to Mjolnir armour very well. You’d need to take one swipe to drop the shield and then another to try and sneak the blade in through the undersuit.
It wouldn’t make sense as the energy sword would just cut through the katana, plus the shotgun exists and provides a counterpart to the sword
We dont really need one. Think about it, humans have the shotgun as the counter to the covie energy sword or grav hammer. The covies dont really have a shotgun. What special playstyle or ability would a human sword bring to halo besides taking up extra space?
Now what would be interesting is a human skin for the energy sword.

Yeah, I’ve been thinking about that too and its a great idea if you ask me and it would be really cool if they did give the humans their version of the energy sword.
You’d have to model the sword after one that can break armor, like a greatsword.
Make the swords/machete’s that are behind the difficulty and give them a plasma edge. Agree with others that you’ll have redundancy in the sandbox but it still would be cool. Take away the ‘lunge’ that the energy sword gives off and maybe dual wield?

This is true.
I always thought that there would be a reversed engineered version of the energy sword made for humans. Just with a handle and a single energy blade extending from it like a real sword.
If we were gonna have UNSC/ Spartan swords in multiplayer, the only way we could make it work is to make it functionally different from the energy sword, which would be difficult to do. Only thing I can think of is having a sword assassination or extra utility piece on armor.
Not a bad idea but not a necessary one for Halo in my opinion. What would be the point considering combat knives are standard issue for all UNSC troops?
A sword would be cool… just not sure how it fits into the sandbox.
Maybe a taser of some sort makes more sense.
How about a combat knife with a built in taser?
And a bottle opener, screwdriver, compass…
Combat knife, or a variation of a machete. Although melee weapons are mostly redundant by modern war standards. I always figured that the elites energy sword was more of a cultural thing.
Honestly, I’m against this idea, the Energy sword is cool enough, in my opinion.
I’m really against it. The standard knives from Reach were absolutely fine, cause, just logical, why the heck should an Marine or ODST should go in close combat with an Brute who got an gravity hammer or an Ultra Elite that wields an particle sword. [Pls don’t start now with “Spartan” IV, they are the Mary Sues of the Spartan series lol, preffering ODST way more].
Also the Katana is - in my opinion - compared to the european sword - a really big disadvantage. Maybe it’s looking cool but to be honest, it’s just totally overrated.
As Virulent Ending said, the energy sword is kinda more traditional weapon, just like the gravity hammer.
Why encourage’ your soldiers [most soldiers of the UNSC are still poor marines] to go in dangerous close combat with a sword? Shotgun is still an better weapon. And don’t forget, Brutes are massive and strong and also mobil, Elites are also compared to humans massive, strong and fast.
in conclusion:
Katanas: use them in Zombie games, Animes and Mediaval Fantasy games but hell not in Halo [even if the Katana from H3 was looking good, it’s still kinda stupid].
i mean it would be cool but at that point wouldn’t it be a light sabre in broad terms?

yea, this is what im thinking about! just that 343 has to make a material that the sword would be made of! im thinking that thw sword is made out of the same stuff the mjolnir armour is made of and, like you said, a plasma blade!

They kind of already have one, the energy bayonet.
The shotgun is effectively the human equiv. Humans not having their own ‘melee weapon’ outside of assassinations helps solidify the military sci-fi feel and not get too fantastical.

Yeah melee weapons have a pretty small role in a modern/future battlefield. They have their uses, soldiers today carry knives, but they aren’t going to charge enemy lines to knife anyone. Its a last resort or stealth weapon, the latter of which is already represented by assassinations.
Sure an elite can get more out of melee than a normal human do their size, durability, natural regeneration, and shields, but it still exposes them to honestly uneeded risk. Outside of gameplay where everyone is surprisingly tanky, a plasma rifle should be more than enough to handle a human marine. Charging in is just going to get you surrounded and gunned down, or even if you survive cause avoidable wounds and armor damage.
That said, carrying an energy sword is at least not weighing you down much, its probably the smallest weapon in the sandbox due to just being a handle.
