I have seen some posts on here in the past with the opinion that the UNSC needs a melee weapon. Most people reply with the fact that it would be redundant do to the fact that a CQC weapon already exists (shotgun).
Well guess what: UNSC melee weapons already exist. What if we were able to use the skull, bomb and flag in gametypes other than objective? Here’s how I suggest they work:
Skull: 1HK, 10 max kills. Every time you kill someone with it the skull cracks a little bit and after 10 kills the skull shatters. The skull can also be thrown by pressing RT. If a player gets hit by a thrown skull it results in a kill.
Bomb: Same thing as the skull but explodes after 10 kills. The bomb can also be thrown; activating a 10 second fuse once the bomb hits the ground. The bomb can be disarmed and thrown back re-activating the fuse at the time it was disarmed (if the bomb was disarmed after 7 seconds it now has a 3 second fuse).
Flag: ???
We should at the very least be able to use these in custom games and in forge.
Thoughts? Also I would like to point out that it is now possible to carry a flag and a secondary weapon. I wonder if this is also possible with the bomb and skull (oddball)?
No, I don’t like the idea. It really doesn’t seem that fun.
Don’t we have knives for assassinations?
Hmmm we might actually see some of these ideas implemented as Frankie said that we’ve only gotten a taste of the different changes for the objective gametypes (referring to the flag/oddball assassinations, using pistol while holding flag, and being able to toss the oddball short distances).
The only ideas that I don’t like is the ability for the objectives to decompose with each melee.

That would only be for non-objective gametypes, and would be in place for balance purposes. This option would of course be adjustable in customs.

I remember reading somewhere that in Halo CE, Bungie originally planned to have the Machete that was on the difficulty shield as a weapon.
I think that a UNSC melee weapon would be interesting, but the niche is already filled by the energy sword and gravity hammer. I don’t see how they could fit another weapon and make it interesting and useful at the same time. The flag and oddball idea seems a little too farfetched to be a weapon for a military.

Originally Halo CE was planned to include a Machete as the human equivalent of the Energy Sword. Just putting it out there.
