Human Melee Weapon

I think it would be nice to see a human melee weapon come into halo infinite. What do you think?

We already have the 7 Wood

I’d love to see standard melee replaced with a knife melee, or even have an option to put away your guns and go melee-only with a knife. Would add more customization options with knife skins and you could even let Yoroi users wield their katana into battle.

There doesn’t have to be complete parity in the sandbox. It needs to add something unique in my opinion.

This topic has kind of been beaten through over the years and my answer has never changed.

We don’t really need one.
The gameplay sandbox has been fine without it.

Let’s say we do add a USNC melee weapon. A knife, Katana, whatever you want. Now put it on a map. It’ll essentially perform the same role as the energy sword or G-Hammer.
Sure it may have its own little quirk to make it slightly different but is it worth having another weapon that isn’t really that different to the Hammer or Sword? Probably not, it’ll just be kind of redundant.
You’re only ever going to see the one of either the Hammer, Sword or UNSC melee weapon of choice on a map anyway.

The Sword/G-Hammer have a trade off, that you have to be in close range. A shotgun or anyone who is at distance can easily counter act those players. The shotgun is a close range weapon that takes the place of a melee weapon. It’s more practical of a counter and plays the role better in my opinion.

I see a lot of people maybe suggest a knife for whenever you run out of ammo in game. But how often does that ever occur? So rarely online as everyone has the same guns, ammo is everywhere. Is it worth building that feature and balancing it for a low use rate. Probably not.
Could argue it would be more useful in Campaign. But once again, you have weapons & ammo at your disposal everywhere. With in game bases (shown in the last E3 show) ammo can be replenished fairly easily.

Lore reasoning:
The Covenant Energy Sword & Gravity Hammer are ceremonial weapons. They’re not a standard use weapon for their military forces.
The UNSC doesn’t really need to mimic that.

For me, I feel as if trying to add another melee weapon to the game or trying to enhance melee combat with hand to hand or knifes is just a bit redundant. It’s always felt a bit gimmicky in any game Ive seen it in, I love Halo but I can’t see it doing a better job at it either.

I agree with you here.
Though they were planning to add the swords you see behind the shield on the difficulty levels as a weapon in CE originally. I wonder what place in the sandbox that had and if it would fit in the current sandbox.

It could always be a variant of the energy sword like halo 5 introduced.

I have an idea. Custom knives for stealth melee attacks.

Personally I think a combat sword would be cool, a human take on the type 1

imagine it a machete like weapon that has a plasma blade in front of its main blade, the plasma blade doesn’t have as much battery as the type 1, but it does have an advantage the type 1 doesn’t once it is out of charge it just looses its lunge the damage stays the same.

Absolutely pointless and redundant. We already have the energy sword, we don’t need some machete in the game.

In the books the Spartan have like special machetes that were able to go toe to toe with elite swords so I’d like to see those in game

Same.

With the grapple hook, anything you can grapple and throw is now a melee weapon.

then go play CS:GO

Why not…! An easter egg that you can pick up in the campaign that allows you to use a Kukri or the swords on the logo difficulties. ^^
In multiplayer I don’t know if it would be efficient… but it would still be nice for machinima or to be able to make moves like in CS GO x)

I agree with you ! Why not found the golf club

Could make Emile’s knife a weapon, like in Apex with the heirlooms. They could also add the Katana as a pick up or something like a baseball bat.

Knifes could be a cool addition for cosmetic customization. Instead of a punch, a knife animation of same length, reach and impact could be implemented. That might sound like too much CoD in Halo, but I do not think it would be out of place since Spartans are definitely knife users. Remember Reach.

That’s not at all how that works. Plus, it’d change nothing from a gameplay standpoint other than change the animation. You really gonna tell me with a straight face that having customizable knives wouldn’t be cool?

The combat knife is technically one. And the 7 wood.

Yes but you can’t use the knife free hand.
