So I know a lot of people are up in arms about this, but I personally am very interested in this concept and something that is not already new in the canon. If I remember correctly, in The Cole Protocol, there was actively covenant working together with insurrectionists in the asteroid belt. So the concept that some section of the covenant taking humans into their ranks or at least working with them is not unheard of. I do believe that this will be a interesting idea and something that could be interesting in the main canon. Like how ONI stoked civil war in the Elites, whose to say a anarchist alien group or some sort of prophet shadow group could supply insurrectionists with material or train soldiers? It even makes sense in the fact that having spies or sleeper agents working for various factions that seem odd (like a human in the covenant) would work. Human bent on survival, or a human orphaned because of the UNSC and some kig yar or merciful Elite or Prophet could see potential in having a agent of sorts. I guess the tldr version is, lets wait and see, because I actually think this could be something cool.
The Covenant wanting a HUMAN double agent is a slap in the face to fans and is a poor joke even if the entire shtick of the tv series is for this double agent is to root out human colonies. The Covenant doesn’t need such a stupid plot addition and there is nothing anyone can say that will change my mind as the Cole Protocol created by Admiral Cole isn’t as great as many make it out to be. Its entire purose was to hide our colonies and look how great that worked out. Nothing was stopping the Covenant’s unrelenting advance into Human space as the UNSC “strategy” was to sit and wait for the Covenant to come knocking on our doors with a fleet that is going to glass everything.
I can’t stress how this double agent BS is poorly written as we can plainly see in the 27 year long war. The Covenant were doing just fine locating our colonies and turning them into balls of glass. Hell even the luminaries make a double agent meaningless as they can locate us just fine and its there use and poor understanding that started the war in the first place. I also find it hard to believe or even accept a child is going to be spared from a massacre of whatever world she lived on as the Covenant made it a point to slaughter us in the billions. Men, Women, and Children. Soldiers and Civilians. No one was spared and anyone can see the tv series is going to be poorly written.
It’s almost as if writers had tons of material to use as an example of how to exactly please fans of the franchise and make a solid show, and instead, like so many in that industry, they decided, “Let’s do the opposite of that. If the fans don’t like it, they’re the ones not open minded enough for our bold new direction - it’s their own fault”.
I sincerely hope the show surprises me and this is not the direction it goes. But if the above premise is to be used … just why? Why make a show, based on a game, and write it in such a way as to impress NOT the gamers that have played it for decades. And while examples of Covenant and Human cooperation do exist, they are most typically oultiers running counter to either cultural normative during the Human-Covenant War.

You are saying the writing is bad on what? A bullet point on a character outline? If your attitude is that it is going to suck you will suffer from confirmation bias. also you can stress whether or not you think its bs all you want but it does make sense and is viable. Just because a group hates another doesnt mean it wouldnt or wont bend its own rules. If the covenant went to war with humans to cover a lie, why is it a stretch that they would work with humans to kill other humans? I think your rage is blinding you.
