Not sure if this is correct or not but did the human covenant war start because the sanshyuum were jealous because the forerunners choose humanity as their heirs?
Eh, closeish. Truth, Mercy, and Regret started the Human-Covenant War in a power grab. A Covenant ship stumbled across Harvest, and then some Brutes were sent there to investigate…a Covenant device called the Luminary marked every human it could scan as a Forerunner relic…and then when Truth, Mercy, and Regret consulted Mendicant Bias about it, what he told them made them jump to the conclusion that Humans were living Forerunners.
Which would be a problem for the Covenant and possibly divide them as their whole religion was based on the death of the Forerunners, and finding live ones would undermine that and potentially cause a civil war and completely divide the Covenant (which wound up happening anyway). Truth and the other two were acting out of a misguided power grab…because of Mendicant Bias’ seeming revelation, they figured that they were the only ones who could handle the Covenant in order to keep it from leaking out, so they got themselves selected as Hierarchs and then proceeded to declare humans an abomination and declare war upon humanity.
Kind of. The San’Shyuum, along with the rest of the Covenant believed that they were the chosen ones. But when the San’Shyuum found out that the humans were actually the true “Reclaimers,” they set off to rid the galaxy of them.
In the end this cost the Covenant to split up into factions when the Human-Covenant War ended in Nov 2552. San Shyuum are in hiding because of the Sangheili’s wrath and the 3rd extinction of their species. Without a homeworld the San Shyuum are hiding somewhere in the galaxy the Sangheilis however believe the San Shyuum have begun their ‘Great Journey’ meaning they believe they are extinct. Reason why this happend is because Truth planned all this when he found out about the humans and being them ‘Reclaimers’. Truth had a plan when they got information about Installation 04’s location from Thel who with his Fleet of Particular Justice followed the Pillar of Autumn. His plan:
Give Jiralhane power of military in the Covenant
Eliminate Thel Vadamee by making him an Arbiter
Eliminate the Sangheili for good before they find out the truth
Eliminate Mercy and Regret
Activate the Ark and the remaining Halo Rings on Earth
Begin the Great Journey while activating the Ark and the Halo Rings
In this case Truth was a lunatic. To me he could be well of a descendent of a lunatic San Shyuum that wanted power as well by spreading lies. Remember Mercy and Regret were caught off guard by this and they probably did not know of Truth’s plan because they both died. San Shyuum that were alive on High Charity, one of them had to repent his sins his kind did since he realized the truth. He was locked up. In the end he was killed and infected by the Flood.
My theory is the San Shyuum were unaware of Truth’s plans. Truth had to convince Mercy and Regret to make up a lie that the humans were a threat and so they agreed and were promoted to the High Prophet rank. Regret and Mercy were unaware of Truth’s plans later in the future. If the two were still alive, I’m sure they would’ve joined the humans and the Sangheili side. Regret was more in with the Sangheili since he has been around them long. Mercy is old and wise. All San Shyuum were unaware and were caught off guard by the Great Schism.
If you think about it, Truth did abandon his own people and planet(whats left of it). All Truth wanted was power for himself. He was a selfish San Shyuum. Now the San Shyuum are in hiding because their home is gone and the Sangheili are angered at what Truth did. If they are in hiding, we hope to hear more of them in the future of their fate. As for their fate, it’s unknown. Right now they are in hiding and they should be.
