Yo. It’s a long time since I’ve done a topic post on Waypoint, World of Tanks and whatnot taking up most of my time. Anyways. Every now and then whenever I do check Halo Waypoint, I sometimes find it amusing that users quote or like on comments that I’ve made on topics months or even years ago when there are more relevant topics going around. The most recent example I had was a user liking a comment that I posted back in April 2018, just shy of 2 years ago from today. Strange, isn’t it?
I know it sounds all nitpicky and such, but it’s something that never fails to catch my attention; the thought of others scrolling through your comment history on this website is both intriguing and slightly unnerving at the same time. Is it because I gave out (mostly) useful information when I was still active at the time or was it something else entirely? We’ll probably never know.
So tell me, have you guys gotten notifications where someone quoted or liked a comment you made months or even years ago? I’d like to know if I’m not alone on those grounds.
Are you complaining about someone liking a thing you said? May I ask why? Also, just turn off those notification then if it bothers you. I didn’t even know you could get notifications for when someone likes a comment you make. I just assumed the “like” system was anonymous, since it appears anonymous to me.
It is a bit odd. I wonder how people even find these threads that are years old. I think the oldest I’ve seen someone like/quote me was from a thread all the way back in 2015. I think the topic was related to a glitched achievement because I provided a workaround and someone quoted me on saying my workaround was bogus and unnecessary (because it was eventually patched).
Im sure there is a word for it some language, seeing posts inspire someone else to comment all this time later.
Well, on this year the oldest post that someone has liked I posted on 2014, it would really be interesting to see how/why someone would go so far back looking through old topics/posts, especially when it’s not even support post for fixing something that you can find by googling.
Though it’s rather rarely quotes, more commonly it’s just likes.
And again, would be interesting to see the other side of this topic too.
It is a bit odd and random how my old posts are given likes and maybe even a reply, but I think that’s a good thing. It shows that although I wasn’t as experienced in Halo lore back then, I could still contribute to the discussion. Although I do wonder how they found it, that’s besides the point.
As for the oldest post that was liked was my first forum post about two or so years ago from now, when I first joined. I know it’s not as old as others but I haven’t been here for a substantial amount of time compared to others.

The most likely answer is that people are googling issues or topics, and threads you created or commented in are coming up as the top result. So they’re pulling up the old threads that way.
Or, as mentioned above, it’s from an old post bump from a newer user. Happens all the time for me.
Quotes, not that often. Likes on the other hand are ridiculous. There has been many times were I receive a like on a post from 1-2 years ago. In fact, I think I had one today.
I regularly get likes for totally obscure, really old posts. The most recent was this one from the end of 2016, where the only response to the thread had been by me, and I had locked the thread.
The only explanation I can think of is that someone is searching some topic, and for some reason the search engine turns that one particular thread from however many years ago. It definitely doesn’t have anything to do with someone looking through your post history.
The Waypoint threads that come up when you google some Halo related topic can be really obscure. I’ve noticed this in the past when looking up stuff.
I would assume it’s mostly due to people doing search for topics that interest them or because people posted a thread about it and advanced search exists.
