HUD highlighting weapons in close proximity?

I’ve read afew posts about the trouble with finding weapons on the map with high levels of visual detail, and i know from experience when im running around in games, and suddenly a weapon without warning has been hidden from view in some ground detail and can be picked up… This slows gameplay flow down way too much by having me stop, walk backwards til i can pick up the weapon, then actually get it and continue…
Anyway, my point is, wouldn’t it be ideal to have a similar system to the Halo ODST night vision system that highlights the outline of weapons on the ground, but implemented into Halo 4 so that the weapon outline highlighting occurs permanently when in a close proximity without your vision being affected in any other way… Would save, at least me, so much time if i knew there was a gun laying hidden there in the ground detail, and it would also help if i knew whereabouts a weapon was on the map but not exactly to help me locate it… Sorry for the long post but trying to convey myself clearly

That would make it way to easy to find the power weapon someone had after killing them, especially in a tree area. If i die, i dont want it to be easier for my killer to find the weapon, i want him to be so distracted looking ofr it that he gots shot in the -Yoink!- and dies… But thats just me.

Maybe in custom games? Not in MP, it would ruin map control. Every person would be constantly hitting that switch just waiting for power weapons to drop.

Hmm while i do see where you’re coming from, hoping that the enemy will die looking for your weapon doesn’t seem like it is much of a significant reason to dismiss the complete concept of the idea as it is useful in so many other ways… Also, if he knows where your body is, high chances are he will find your gun.

Well maybe in social and not ranked, but the point is for a less than 10m to 5m proximity range of the highlighting, so when your running it can be spotted a second or two before you get there for more convenience… and my interpretation of how it would work is the highlighting outline function is permanently on so no need to click a button, and if someone was going to wait for the power weapon to drop, they would camp it no matter if the highlighting was there or not. Just to clarify.

Sounds kinda bad IMO I don’t like the idea people should learn maps etc.

There goes everyone not reading the OP again.

Great idea. Can’t tell you how many weapons I miss because they got blown into shadows or something. Highlighting guns within a 5m radius is a really, really good idea.

Just cause 2 does this. When you get in a certain radius, the gun flashes white for a second, then continues doing that every three seconds.

That would just take away the awareness players should have to use in order to gain the power weapons.

Sometimes it really is impossible to find that sniper or DMR on a patch of dirt. This feature would be handy indeed. Just don’t make the range it works in too large, i don’t want noobs to stumble on rockets if they don’t even know they spawn there.

And this is probably already in the game, for power weapons. I read in an article that weapon drop timers are randomised, but (power) weapons are highlighted on your HUD so that everyone knows it just spawned, to compensate. i kinda like how it creates a fight over it and thus promotes competitive play in casual playlists, but it kinda fundamentally disturbs the way MLG drop spawning works, so yeah, I’m worried there. We’ll see.

Hmm id be very interested in finding that article to read… they’re use of the highlighting feature is definitely different to how i envisioned mine… would be interesting if they implemented it that way, would really mix the gameplay up from what were use to.

And thank you… i was really wondering if i had written my topic post to be very unclear, with some peoples posts missing what i was trying to say.

Brilliant idea. The simple fact is that games cannot wholly recreate reality, and in reality, I don’t think most of us would have as much trouble locating a large hunk of metal on the ground. As such, games need to find different means of accomplishing the same end, and I think this would do nicely.

It honestly makes alot of sense in the game too, he is in a highly advanced combat suit with a HUD system that should be able to identify parts of the environment around him e.g. like a gun on the ground in close range… If Iron Man’s suit can do it, then i have no doubt the Spartan suits should be able to.

If you’re able to justify its inclusion from the perspective of both gameplay and canon, then I think you’re onto a winner. Here’s hoping 343 stumble onto this thread.

This will be bad for FFAs.

How so?
