Title says it all, to those who have read Primordium, either midway through or finished, what are your thoughts on it? Thanks
It’s the book of madness,
Madness.

The book of madness is a good book, it contains a lot of madness in it.
It’s very informative so far. I like it because I’m a Halo addict.
The I’m only a few chapters in I don’t like that it’s not from Bonestellar’s point of view. When I read science fiction I like to read through superhero’s eyes, or aliens, etc… Not through a regular human’s.
This doesn’t mean there’s any thing wrong with the book so far. It’s just a personal preference of mine. I’m the same with the other Halo books. I like the books about Spartans and aliens. I wasn’t as big as a fan of the books about humans. Again, I’m not saying they are bad. That’s just my personal preference.
I miss Eric Nylund, he made the reading intense and exciting. Bear and the other woman who wrote Glasslands are just…boring.
(Note that I don’t even care to remember her name.)

Noted
Every 64 seconds.
A book of MADNESS that happens every 64 seconds…just out of control!
Overall, great book and liked it a lot, the Forerunner Saga books seem like the best to me out of the whole Halo series of books for some reason…
I have to wait until it’s in Australia then i will get it

Wait until you get to the end, the reason for Chakas’ point of view will make more sense, and be rather… brain melting
Ciaran, it is in Australia! I got it at Galaxy Bookshops. Hardcover! Woooooo.
well, the beginning and the end are really good. The rest of the book is quite boring though. There’s over 100 pages of Chakas walking around and around. It gets boring fast, and stays boring. Basically, read the beginning to remember what happened in the previous book, then skim through the next 150 pages or else you’ll go mad.

…, no…
Do not skip the bOok, yoU must read all the book of madness.

No Berserker is correct. I loved the first book but this is horrible. There are over a 100 pages describing walking, trees, grass, mud, etc… I’m skipping entire pages now. I don’t know what Bear was thinking.
I’ll give an example. Not from the book so as not to post any spoilers but just from me.
Where you could write “As I traversed a worn trail through the woods…”
Bear would write "I travel on a path of dirt. The dirt is brownish in nature. I wonder if this is the same dirt taken from the world I come from. This must have been how the animals once traveled through the great forest of my world. Their feet patting down the dirt in front of them. One follows the other. The trees part for their migration.
Did the Librarian plan for this dirt to be here to remind me of home. To remind me of what I have lost. Would Chakus like this dirt? Would he have walked the same way?
My companions also walk on the dirt. I contemplate if they like the dirt. Does the dirt make them think of any thing in particular? There are grasses and bushes around the dirt path. The trees remind me of other trees.
I look up while walking the path. It’s a sky with clouds. Past those clouds are stars…"
You get the picture. It’s on and on and on. I’m interested in what happens of course but the book is horribly boring. The exact opposite of the first. Unless things change a lot I’m guessing the book should have been about 30 pages long. The rest is just fluff. Literally nothing but descriptions environment that we’ve read a 1000 times before. That and the exact same questions about the Librarian, Bornstellar, the Didact and Forunners over and over and over again.
I’m literally grinding through the book to see what we are getting at but so far, except for about 3 different things, it’s nothing except describing simple walking through an environment. I’m halfway through the book and I promise that with the information I have I should have only read maybe 30 pages, probably 20.
Overall its a good book, but Chakas does A LOT of walking, and also the very unnecessary repetition of the fact that librarian has a job for them is annoying, and he explains the detail of the scenery a bit to much… but the ending is quite good, leaves a lot of questions hanging and gives quite a lot of information about the halo universe

Correct. The first four chapters should be read, then you can skip to halfway through the book. Everything else in between is Chakas walking through the Halo trying to find Riser, but Riser finds them. It became a good read when Forthencho started talking to and through Chakas.

I would love to see an Evolutions-type anthology released before the third and final book detailing a whole lot of background and interesting things, namely the history of Charum Hakkor’s empire and the conversation between Forthencho and Yprin on Installation 07.
Apart from the Chakas-ONI discussion, the spirits would have to be the thrilling part of the novel.
It’s kinda Lord of the Ringsey at first. There’s a lot of walking, and starving, and complaining about all the walking and starving.
But what it also does is paint a really clear picture of where they are, which is important not only for the plot, but also in understanding more about how Halos function practically.I really enjoyed it. It’s a marathon that really picks up at the end. The last 7 or 8 chapters are awesome and the reveal is pretty epic.
Also, if you don’t like Greg Bear then shame on you. He’s an excellent science fiction writer. I’ll agree that Karen Traviss is a hack (she’s like a female Kevin J. Anderson) but Greg Bear is one of the best in the business. 343 is lucky to have him involved in shaping the fiction beyond the games.
It is such a great book, but it’s INSANE!
the final two chapters when the Captive speaks gave me chills.
I cannot wait for the last one!
