> Agreed… I’ve said it before and I will say it again. 343i is not the same as Bungie in terms of multiplayer.
>
> But in terms of campaign/story, they are far, FAR superior. They rely heavily on the novels, they expand the lore even further by introducing Prometheans, great character development, looking back at old dialogues from older Halo games and making it meaningful, and finally… they changed the Chief.

> Chief is not the emotionless killing machine we used to know him as. He is more than that. He is a hero… but also has an Achilles Heels. Never in Bungie Halo games was his weakness ever exposed. In the past Halo games, you never felt Chief’s pain. You never witnessed him SCREAM due to pain (NOT counting when you die during gameplay)… Until 343i took over.

> And I love that… it makes him feel more human and relatable. And THAT changes him as a person. Chief is MORE than just a one sided/bland character.

> And thanks to 343i, Chief is now becoming a DYNAMIC character.
I don’t know. It just seems like he’s exactly the same except now he blabs more often. It’s the same dialogue as before, just more often so less meaningful. He get’s one or two moments of introspection, none of which I particularly cared for because none of which felt very interesting. “I’m a machine.” He says.
“Well duh!” I responded.
Don’t get me wrong, H4 has a good campaign, but I feel it’s on par with Bungie’s better ones. Lasky, Palmer and Halsey are great, but in my opinion, so was Johnson, Tartarus, Arbiter, Truth, Mercy and friggin’ Cortana. I don’t know how to respond to H4’s Cortana after playing the originals. Seriously. Both Keyes were kind of boring though. And Reach and Destiny were long narrative slogs. Even ODST was bland, imo.
It’s not that I think flawed characters are boring - it’s just that MC never had any of the “flaws” in previous games that he had in 4. Sociopath? No. Quiet, but I wouldn’t say sociopathic. Unsure about himself? He’s a freaking SPARTAN - II. Not only that, but he saved every race in the galaxy from extinction…twice…He could probably ask the UNSC for anything and they’d give it to him.
So no, Bungie post 2004ish isn’t good at story telling. 343i isn’t great at it, yet.
