So that is the question. How would you have created Halo 4? What would you do besides new guns and maps ala what Call of Duty does every year. (which is why it sucks) How would you have made Halo 4 iconic to the series with the “core experience” for multiplayer while keeping it relevant to today’s market and times and what people want in a game/Halo game?
That is the million dollar question isn’t it? I would’ve tried to keep it similar to the core gameplay of, perhaps, Halo 3. That would give it a solid foundation yet keep it flexible enough for the introduction of other features. I’d keep Armor Abilities, but offer them as map pick ups like any other weapon or equipment. I’d then have an even mix of small maps along with mid-to-long range maps.
The story would be somewhat intact, but I have a few things I’d change.
For the story, I would have referenced more things from past Halos while telling a new story. The Arbiter would probably have been in there somewhere, and the post-war era would have been explored more thoroughly.
As for the MP, I would’ve kept AAs but not have implemented Personal Ordnance or SitRec (killcams). And for Forge, I would have made bigger maps is all (other than the restricting size of maps, I like the new Forge). And Fileshare, Campaign Theater (explained in canon under the pretext that SIVs need to stuty the exploits of Spartan IIs)/Spartan Ops Theater, and a plethora of other things that should have been enabled at launch would have been enabled.
I don’t even know where to start. . .
Know what, I’d just hire Bungie.
Kidding.
Okay, so....
For the story line, I want it to be something where you actually feel that you've accomplished something for your struggles in the end, like in Halo 1, 2 & 3. Like you actually went from Point A to Point B. This is something I felt was missing from Halo 4. H4 felt like you didn't accomplish a thing.
The Campaign would have to be stretched, focusing more time on major events. as I feel that in Halo 4, they tried to stuff too many major events into a short, short Campaign.
There would have to be a cutscene making a huge deal about the UNSC finding John 117, Who the Didact is, and who these Spartan IV's are.
I just really feel that the character's in the game shrugged off events and discoveries that I think should have been a huge deal, and would have been cool to see how Cortana, John, Lasky, Palmer, etc. reacted to them.
The ending sequence would not involve Cortana holding the Didact down, but instead would be a very long fast-paced Quicktime event, fight with the Didact. Mess up once and you have to start over; but maybe that would depend on difficulty.
Then the multiplayer. I like what the multiplayer has going so far, so I'd keep that, just reducing the range on the Boltshot, making the DMR a 4-shot kill with aim-assist close to that of a Sniper-Rifle and a slow rate of fire, and making the BR have the same damage, but a fast enough rate of fire that it would out-shoot a DMR (in a perfect world) at close-range, the spread increasing with range.
The Carbine would be buffed to a 7-shot kill, and Light-Rifle can stay as it is.
Then, a classic playlist, that plays exactly like Halo 3.
Custom Games would have the same customization as Reach, and Theater mode would be improved with the ability to Rewind added in.
In Forge mode, the "Forge World" would return. You would be able to make motors, and put AI in forge, with the abilty to add the path they walk on, and set a mode (Chase, Idle, attack, melee, etc.)
Random Additons:
+ Falcon & Hornet return
+ Plasma Rifle
+ Improvements for Machinima makers
+ Elites possible through custom gametypes
I see but many of these things sound like Halo3.8 or Halo3.5 and stuff. What other features would you have implemented DecptionCobra because you said leave some room for features like what? And Here Be Dragons what would you have have implemented instead of personal ordnance?
Only reasons I am asking is because i hate the same games as sequals with minor- no differences and every time I am on these forums i see people asking for H2/H3 style back but never with anything new. Just a reskin with new maps and weapons and it really makes me sad that people want this type of stagnation. But that is my opinion. I don’t know what i would have added so that is why I am asking you. I see that people hate Sprint why? Sprint was a feature i wanted since Halo 2 lol and now we have it people dislike it.

And force them to make a game in a franchise that they didn’t want to work on anymore?
Campaign
- Introduced more memorable characters
- Made the final meeting with the didact a boss battle not a cutscene/quicktime event
- Bring back hidden skulls
Forge
-Forge world 2.0
-Undo button
-mirror button
Multiplayer (get ready)
-NO personal ordanance
-NO loadouts
-AAs are pickups on the map, similar to camo/overhsield from H3
-NO sprint (A speed pickup maybe)
-Make vehicles stronger than they are right now
-Pre placed weapons to encourage map movement + control
-respawn wait
-Ranked and social playlists separate
-XP awarded only for a win (Encourages people to actually try)
-1-50 system

Do they need to be replaced? Random Weapon Spawns are perfectly fine with me, and AAs are too. Personal Ordnance is the only thing I really have an issue with.
I could write out a big list of things that are wrong with H4 and how I would fix them… but we’ve all seen these lists.
If I were making Halo 4 I’d make sure that there was an emphasis on quality and attention to detail. I’d try my hardest not to let my ego or sense of security threaten the integrity of the game, and I would focus on honoring the Halo universe rather than worry about how the world perceives my worth.
In other words I wouldn’t just change stuff for the hell of it and I wouldn’t rush it, I’d make sure it all works well and that it is complete.
Lets see id trash everything 343 introduced, aa’s would be map pickups and would have a limited number of charges. I would try to figure out a way to add map hazards and environmental hazards. Environmental would be like that one gow3 map that has a sand storm. But honestly it is hard to figure out what i would add why because i am not a game designer. However i know that i would not stray from what halo was.
I would keep it close to its roots that halo 1-3 were not what we currently have.
Yea i would deffinatly get rid of everything 343 decided would be a good idea.
sprint
dynamic spawning
instant respawns
custom loadouts
ordnance
To name a few.
Killer computer so you mean Halo3.1 or was it Halo 3.4? And what is wrong with sprint? honestly i can’t see anything wrong with it. Are you afraid of change?
So what i am getting here is that you guys want a Halo 3.2 or something liek what cod does every year? little to no changes?
> So what i am getting here is that you guys want a Halo 3.2 or something liek what cod does every year? little to no changes?
Changes are good but change for the sake of change or change that strays from what the game was is not. I may not like cod but i respect that they dont change the core gameplay, that is one thing i wish halo did. Stop changing core gameplay and keep the current fans you have.
> Killer computer so you mean Halo3.1 or was it Halo 3.4? And what is wrong with sprint? honestly i can’t see anything wrong with it. Are you afraid of change?
Riddle me this.
Why change everything for the sake it?
Oh yeah, I forgot every installment had to be completely different from the last. Ill go tell Activision that shall I?
Really Stevokiller? That IMHO is what i hate about Call of Duty. Is that they don’t change. No change brings on stagnation. How could you respect a company that charges 60$ a year for the same game? It is like buying a new car every year. It is like musical artists who don’t change their music at all. They end up not doing so well I.E. reason Chuck berry died out was because he never changed his setlist. Look at the Bwatles. They changed their sound and got better which each change.
Also activison doesn’t have to change. They have mindless idiots buying COD no matter what. Also im guessing you never heard of the metacritic bomb that happened with MW3? And every installment should be different from the last. maybe not so different but different in a memorable way. Hence why amny movies do bad in sequals because they are the same for example Airplane 2. If you have a fanbase who will buy your -Yoink- no matter what there is no point to change anything because they will keep buying it no matter what.
What is the core gameplay for halo then? Also change for the sake of change is good because it promotes new ideas and new things come out of it. If people kept not changing the way they fight wars we would not have guns and such or any of that. Not even in war but in life and everything in general. STAGNATION is one of the main reasons why the game industry is suffering. Look at COD. Who cares if it makes millions of dollars. that doesn’t make it a good game or anything like that. Quanity is not quality in games or any other form of media For example Justin Bieber. Now I am not saying i like every feature they have with Halo 4 or what the finished product is. I hate some features they added to and what not. Also when they mentioned all of these changes how come no on voiced their opinion very loudly to tell them to stop and such things like the Mass Effect 3 ending?
I Pay $60 for A NEW EXPERIENCE. Not the same game as before. I would enjoy COD if they changed sum stuff but they don’t. Last good COD game was COD4MW. What is the justification of a company that turns out the same game every year for 60 dollars? or a company given 2-4 eyars to give out…the same game again. 2-4 years is mroe then enough time to change something about the game and not have it stagnate.
-greater distinction between Elite variants
-greater distinction between Knight variants
-more abilities for the Watcher
-properly canonize Elite Generals or get rid of them entirely
-Covies and Prometheans remain hostile to each other more longer
-Didact wouldn’t take control of all Prometheans immediately. Librarian would have control over some of them
-when Covies and Prometheans team up, there will actually be combat improvement
-Didact fight would be a cutscene until the end, where you have the choice (QTE) to take him down without a second thought or let him proceed with his plan and get hurled into the slipspace rupture
-include an easter egg for Didact to be fought in a normal boss fight
-decrease Chief’s shield stun time (shield recharge wait)
-increase Chief’s jump height
-IWHBYD makes Grunts always speak in English and Elites occassionally speak in English
-increase time for disappearing guns
-skull hunting
-in-game terminals
-more campaign challenges

So you only buy games which are the complete opposite of the previous title?
okay then. that makes sense.

I would not have taken away all the options
If they wanted to make halo for super casuals, i would have put all this crap they gave us in a social playlist, and created a ranked playlist that doesn’t use the limited game breaking features ripped from call of duty
Oh, and i wouldn’t have shipped a beta game.
I guess i should have explained it more, they keep the core gameplay the same that is what i respect about call of duty. The core gameplay of halo has changed drastically. It was an arena shooter were everyone started off on a level playing field now it is a classed based shooter.
I do agree cod needs to change but keep the core of the game the same. Change is good but changing the game to something else entirely is bad.
I honestly would not know anything about cod, i cant stand that franchise. In my opinion cod is part of the reason why fps’s are slowly becoming trash.
