I have always wondered what the community would think of a campaign extension through DLC, or even an entire spin off game with a campaign that is 3X as long as normal. Imagine opening your campaign menu, and seeing your default missions, and the familiar stars next to post release missions.

Speaking of which, would you like the campaign DLC to be master chief or another character?
Spartan Ops pretty much is this, it expands on the Halo storyline while the actual games focus on Chief’s story (Halo 5 & 6).

The thing about singleplayer expansion is that it doesn’t work very well in the fast action-based FPS genre. The storylines of these are already set in stone and canon is built over several games and outside sources(books, comics, films etc). If we introduced a campaign DLC featuring the chief for instance, at the end of halo 4, then not only would it shift the starting place of the next game, but can possibly lead to plot holes later on and inconsistency in the events between games. It would also lead anybody who can’t buy the DLC to not understand his hole in the storyline that suddenly popped up.
These things work in RPGs usually, as there is usually already small holes in the plot here and there that are filled, or sometimes small events that could have been overlooked, but for some reason was checked into on this one occurance, and unfolded into something bigger. However singleplayer expansion should be left entirely out of the fast, linear storylines present in FPS games.
That being said, Spartan ops somewhat fills this position, as it takes place 6 months after the campaign, and the missions may or may not lead to hints at the bigger story to be unveiled in halo 5 and halo 6.
I’d get it, Maps get old quick so would a story but I wouldn’t feel buyers remorse unless it was written by a preschooler.
There’s already a Halo mission called Uprising…
Spartan Ops is going to cover that.
@Lehnaru There are two missions named Halo

Yeah, but “Halo” is an iconic name for a Halo mission. It’s different
