I found this blog post by a person describing their experience of Halo 2 on XBL.

I’d say it was the best game ever. I recall my first game, it was a BTB game on waterworks and I barely saw anyone. When I did it was a frantic sporadic gun battle. Most of the time we just were exploring and looking around and jumping and shooting at air. The next 5 or so years were more of the same.
It was pretty fun. I don’t like nostalgia to blind me.

Nostalgia is over rated. Halo 2 was/is/always will be the best video game for me. Everytime I have a chance to play I have fun, it is not a reliving of the past, it’s having fun in the present. It would be better to share the experience with others with match making on xbox live but for me Halo 2 is not something that is nostalgic. It’s something to have fun playing in the present and recalling the fun times in the past when I have time to do so.
Halo 2 will always be one of the best online games of all time. Some site did a top 5 list on that subject and I believe Halo 2 ended up number 3 on it so that isn’t just my fanboyism talking.
It is the bar by which all future FPS multiplayer will be compared to until something else comes along to top it which I don’t see happening anytime soon b/c of the way games are made these days and the current trends of the genre.
The best part about it was that there was something for everyone no matter what your style was. Competitive gamers had great, balanced gameplay and maps. Casual gamers had all kinds of cool glitches and fun custom games to play, etc. The MM environment was more friendly compared to today where you better get used to unhelpful teammates, no mics, and that lone wolf mentality of only doing what what helps yourself out and not your team. Couldn’t tell you how many times one of my teammates just stands there and watches while I’m being assassinated in Reach just waiting for the enemy to exit out of it and they can assassinate them for their own benefit instead of saving me form the assassination.
Halo 2 wasn’t perfect by any means, but it was by far the best online experience to date.
I personally think it was my greatest nostalgic experience ever. Still, it doesn’t cloud my judgement for the future halo games.
Best online experience I’ve ever had. None will top it. Even if it was re-released it wouldn’t be like the old days. XBL is just too different. Don’t get me wrong though, I’d be playing XBL MP again in a heartbeat if I could.
Still hasn’t been a Halo game like it. And there won’t be until they drop the equipment/AA/Sprint stuff.
