How will the map pass work? will i be prompted to do something in-game? do i have to download something from the marketplace?
When you go on halo 4 a pop up might say ‘1 item awaiting download’ etc etc.
When you start the game up, an update will automatically pop up saying something about a DLC is available for you to download from the map pass. After that it will start downloading the Crimson Map Pack once you start the download, no additional charge.

Either when the challenges reset or when xbox marketplace updates which is usually sometime after 12 - 2 am.
Probably about 3AM Pacific Standard Time and 6AM Eastern Standard Time.
I thought this stuff always used to happen at 3am eastern. That’s when stuff used to go online on the marketplace back in the day. Has it changed? I know the challenges reset at like 5.

DLC has historically been released at 2am PST/5am EST. Most major releases come out at this time. Occasionally there is exceptions and/or delays, so we’ll have to just wait and see.
A slightly staggered release is also common over several hours.
Your map pass will act as if you have paid for the maps already, and will just require you to download the DLC.
As for the time, they do not have a specific time for when it is available, mainly to prevent people from raging at them should they be 1 second over the deadline.
