Do you think that the sniper rifle will continue to “wreck” vehicles like they did in Halo Reach? How much damage do you hope they’ll do?
I hope not. I hope it’s more like Halo 3’s sniper. A sniper rifle should NOT be able to destroy vehicles, it should be able to kill people in one shot at long distances, and only that.
The sniper is an anti-material weapon, not an anti-vehicle weapon. I sure hope it takes a little more than 3 or 4 bullets to destroy a banshee.
> The sniper is an anti-material weapon, not an anti-vehicle weapon. I sure hope it takes a little more than 3 or 4 bullets to destroy a banshee.
Personally, I think it’s more fair to put 5-6 sniper rifle bullets into a vehicle, rather than charge up a spartan laser and kill a vehicle with one shot.
I’d rather it not. The sniper shouldn’t do much damage to the vehicle itself, but a skilled sniper should still be able to kill the driver while the vehicle is moving.
it depends on how strong the sniper is and how protected the vehicle is

Agreed.
a rifle firing anti-material sabot rounds at the speed it does and a round that size would easily punch a hole clean through a banshee or any vehicle short of maybe a scorpions armor plating depending on density.
it should wreck vehicles
14.5mm x 114mm anti-tank round

Thanks! I hadn’t known that!
I believe That the sniper being able to hurt vehicles effectively was a good thing. The gun is an Anti-material rifle after all. It also provides a secondary use for the sniper, making the player with it choose to either take out those running players to get more kills, or assist in destroying the tank that has pinned your team within the base. Its a good addition.
However, I don’t believe it should be as effective in this job as the weapons meant to destroy vehicles are. In reach, the sniper was better at destroying vehicles than the rocket launcher was. It should still be able to do considerable damage to vehicles, but it shouldn’t make every warthog driver run in fear of a couple of shots.
Make it take at least twice as many shots to damage most vehicles, and I’d say it would be good.

It may be able to do so, but for the sake of a decent multiplayer experience, it should never be able to wreck a vehicle in less than at very least 8 shots

Kids and their realism in videogames. We’re playing with seven foot tall supersoldiers wearing 2000 lb battle armor with energy shield. Stop acting like Halo is in any way realistic.
Halo shouldn’t be about what’s realistic or not, it should be about what’s fair and balanced and fun, and gimping vehicles is not fair nor balanced nor fun.

The sniper should be able to destroy vehicles fairly easily.
WHAT 343 NEEDS TO DO is give players less ammo for the sniper, that way you have to conserve on your ammo. Instead of “gimping” the sniper damage they should lower the amount of rounds that come with the sniper. Its an anti material weapon, it needs to be able to take out vehicles.

alright we will look at from your perspective. they take away sniper damadge to vehicles. gamers will find another tactic that will give people another reason to whine that it’s “not fair” cause it should work in the ways the want and to there advantage but as soon as they get killed cause they suck the game is instantly unbalanced and they can’t have fun anymore

There are dozens of ways to take out a vehicle in various Halo games. Rockets, Plas pistol. hijacking/skyjacking, other vehicles, stickies, the spartan laser, if you want to include Halo 3 there’s also missile turrets, power drainer and land mines, and now just shooting it. At this point there’s no reason to get in a vehicle, it just makes you an easy kill.

Hell no. the sniper rifle is the most oppressive Anti-infantry weapon out there. Add any sort of meaningful Anti-vehicle property and you simply have the most oppressive gun in the game. Regardless of what else you do to balance the weapon, the fact that it’s a anti-everything sniper rifle will ensure that it will ruin flow.
And to hell with what canon says about “anti-material rounds.” We’re concerned about a game here, a real system of interactions which succeeds or fails based on it’s own qualities. If we even for a minute consider -Yoinking!- with it for the sake of image we’ll be making the greatest possible -Yoinks!- of ourselves.

Well to be fair, the plasma pistol doesn’t do too much against bigger vehicles like tanks and wraiths. A tank can still fire at you while it’s EMP-ed, so you basically have to be right next to it while your EMP it. The Rockets are a good way to take out the lighter vehicles (ghosts, warthogs, etc…) but they don’t do enough against the air vehicles. A banshee can simply dodge the lock on feature just by doing a simple flip, rendering the rockets basically useless against them. I think it’s good that there’s a weapon that can actually do damage against vehicles in a fair manner.
You just need to know how to play. I always use vehicles in halo and I can go on massive sprees, I can also take out a vehicle on my own failry easily. It does not matter what a game designer does to balance things out…and the halo games have been pretty balanced. People will always find a reason to complain and say its not fair cause everyone believes they are the next mlg if only the game was tailored exactly how that player wants it to be. Get over it and deal with what your given. Adapt and over come and at the end of the day… it’s still just a game
